MRS. H. D. IANNEY She is the very person that Plainview High most needed. She is like a glowing garden that has just been weeded. Through all her busy hours, she is patient, sweet, and kind, Another secretary just like her would be hard for you to find. ELLIS M. MILLS Speech is not his major. Speech to him's a chore. And after forty variations of one thing, he really does get sore! And then he gets reminiscent and talks about that boy And the daughter named Linda, these are his pride and joy. MICKEY POOL Meet the grandest guy. He teaches Diversieal Occupations. He doesn't live in town, the country club's his station. He has two little boys and one grand wife, And here's to them all, a long and happy life. MRS. JOHN C. SHINN Who was Columbus? Wllere had be been? Vv'ho was Revere, where did he ride? I don't know sir, but l'll ask Mrs, Shinn. I'll ask Lucille, she'll decide. She has a son, john. She is pretty and sweet. This teacher of History l want you to meet. MIRIAM TURNER Gentlemen prefer blondes this saying is alright, And if you look in the library, you won't change your mind. She is so young and pretty, oh boy, isn't she cute! Turn? If you want a good figure like hers, go strong on that stuff, Eat carrots, lettuce, and spinach all in the rough! SHELBY POLLARD You are so young and handsome, you make us feel so bad. To think that we can't be smart like you and learn to teach a school. And you are so strong on discipline. oh my, but you are strong! Well, we're for you, we girls and boys .and donlt you get that wrong. I. C. RICHARDSON Have you heard this one? Well, I'll tell it all again- lt's as old as the dinosaur or when the world began. He's strong on his biology and on his science, too Guess that's why he loves those antient jokes, don't you? ROBERTA STEELE Boys, boys, don't be a heel! Aren't you hungry, can't you feel The good effects of one square meal? Take her to the altar, and vows seal. Why, the Foods Teacher, our own Miss Steele. R. B. UNDERWOOD- To prove that all sides of the triangle is plus, And the hyfpotfnuse is equal to the hyfpotfafmuse- Has kept this man busy, and it is not just That his head should get bald, and his shoulders get stooped Over such a matter as a hyfpotfafmuse! JEROME VANNOY Another Math enthusiast. He can make his circles meet! He'll make you make 'em too. It's really quite a feat. Oh, you may not have to do it, you may have time to rest We've got to have our daily lesson, don't you know, In the Reader's digest!!

of Sami As I think now of what it means to me, And must to all of us whose hands Have fumbled through thick books of history And struggled with a pen to meet the strict demands Of grammar laws that only Plato could clearly see, The query risesg what is school indeed? A training shop where we are taught to write and read? The answer's written here in my heart, There's a chamber for it set apart, I wonder if these inkfsmudged fingers hold the key To the heavy hidden chest of memory. These things I have loved and they'll remain When cold dry facts have slipped like sands Through a sieve down time's roaring main And only the stuff of dreams the soul still retains: The sudden flash of understanding in Another's eyes that tells you there's a friend Where before was but a stranger, The tense second of silence before the cheers When the Bulldogs scored and the stands went wild. Faces glowing in the light of a leaping bonfire, The first ripple of applause that spread Across the auditorium in assembly, Fragments of bland music and mingled singing Voices that drifted upstairs into a chemistry class, The rustling, humming, droning, busy bustle Of the study hall with a December wind howling outside, The genial, shoulder'rubbingfelbowfbumping Crowd that filled the hall at the noon bell, Shelves of books standing quietly at Attention in the library, A steamy, inky, dusty, musty smell mingled With the tang of frying meat in the cafeteria. Education is preparation for life, the learned fellow says But I say rahl a thousand hearing rahs! For school is Life! and school is youth. A matchless, shifting. surging tide of youth, Laughing, loving, singing a bold new song. Powerful with a restless, vibrant energy. But what is youth? A flash of firefwhite lightning that splits A violet night sky with jagged flame? A taubstringed fiddle life plays on? I do not knowg I only know that here there is A magic flame that may yet warm a frigid world.
