The farmer is the backbone of the country. In the tilling of the soil he is the source of many principal necessities. When he sows the seed in the earth, some fall on fertile soil, others on infertile ground. After a period of cultivation the harvest comes and the toll of the yield is taken. It is then transported to mills to be further processed. The school follows the same principle. The seed of edu- cation is sown in the young students-some take the seed, others do not. After eleven years of cultivation comes the harvest and the toll of the yield is taken. Then the students are sent to college for further processing. In this yearbook, We have tried to give the highlights of some of the cultivation and take the toll of the yield. We pass this on to you.

DEDICATION . When we buy a sack of flour, meal, a box of oats, we notice the name of the mill. The container does not bear the name of the original producer, the farmer. Although the mill deserves praise, the farmer should not be forgotten altogether. After all, the profit of the farmer is small in comparison to that of the miller. If a school is well conducted, the praise goes to the fac- ulty. This is well and they are deserving of the credit but Why not delve deeper into the subject? The school board Works industriously and vvorthily with little praise. The members are the original life-giving element to the school. So in appreciation for the work done by the School Board of the Plainview Independent School District, We, the Staff of the 1939 Plain View Wish to pay tribute to: I E. G. ALEXANDER, President T. O. COLLIER GLENN SMITH MRS. ELLIS CARTER MRS. F. E. CAVE C. A. SHOCK W. B. DAVENPORT GUY BOUNDS, Secfreta1'y and dedicate to them this Yearbook.
