Dr. Jerome Botwinick Principal's Message To The Seniors My heartiest congratulations to the members of the graduating class of 1960. You have met the high standards of scholarship and service required for the Plainview High School diploma. We have attempted through your studies to give each of you an understanding of man's position in the universe and a guide to the betterment of the latter. It is hoped that, during your years at Plain- view High, you have been imbued with attributes of integrity, initiative and industry. Now that the next phase of your career is about to commence, you will draw upon the experiences and traditions of the past four years to render service and make productive contributions to your commu- nity and country. l am certain that your future ac- tions will reflect both a thankful attitude for the excellent educational opportunities afforded you, and an appreciation for the privilege of living in the mi- lieu of freedom created by the vigorous Democracy in which you are citizens. Our best wishes are with you always. Sincerely yours, Jerome Botwinick, Ed.D. Principal

Members of the graduating class of 1960 will be fac- ing a world of challenge quite unlike that con- fronting previous graduates. The position of the United States as the outstanding country in the field of scientific development has been threatened with the launching of inter-space satellites by another country. The significance of this new historic develop- ment holds great import for our high school gradu- ates. We are entering a period when greater pres- tige will be accorded those who have not only science abilities, but knowledge in all fields of learn- ing. The importance of each American working to the limit of his capacity is necessary if we are to maintain our position as the leader of the world. There are some who feel that our American way of life, with its comfort and security, has resulted in the development of a soft generation. However, those of us in the field of education know the caliber of the young people in our schools as represented by the Plainview High School graduating class of l96O. During your years in high school every effort has Dr. Robert F. Savitt Superintendent's Message been made to provide you with educational oppor- tunities geared to your individual interests and abili- ties. Perhaps never again will you have so many people concerned with your welfare as you have had in your high school years. Now, and in your life ahead, you will have to make many individual de- cisions affecting your home, your comminity and your nation. We have confidence in your appreciation and understanding of democracy and we are certain that you will find eminent places in the professions, in commerce, in homemaking and in the trades. Members of this graduating class are a link between the past and the present in the development of the educational system of Plainview - Old Bethpage. You are the first class to enter our new high school and you have shared some of the splendid educa- tional offerings available in this building, provided by the support of your parents. We are sure that the traditions you have established as the first senior class in the new high school will serve as excellent examples for the many graduating classes to follow. Robert F. Savitt, Ed.D. Superintendent of Schools
