PLAINFIELD HIGH SCHOOL PLAINFIELD, ILLINOIS 60544 VOLUME 39 EDITOR — TINA ALLEN ASSISTANT EDITORS CHRIS RAY, STUDENT LIFE KARI PERINAR, VARSITY SPORTS DEBBIE SCHELLER, F S SPORTS MELINDA THOMAS, UNDERCLASS OPENING PROSE — FIELDER STAFF In the beginning, a piece sits alone on the board, feeling different, out of sync, not quite fit- ting in. Then the sur- roundings begin to blend together and the piece feels more a part of this intricate matrix that is Plainfield High School. Friends join the piece, forming a tight-fitting sec- tion that grows and develops into a potpourri of in- dividual personalities, all vy- ing for the perfect slot. No two pieces are exactly alike, yet they all have similarities that make them form a whole. They are joined together on a board which can sup- port them all. As pieces shift, horizons widen, and all become one. After four years, years of joy and sorrow, love and hate, dreams and disasters, the board tilts. The com- pleted puzzle cracks. Older pieces, having thrived there for four years, fall and break off. The pieces are now separate, no longer joined together within their secure borders. The game as we once knew it has become a straight path into the new maze of independence. The piece is shaped just a little differently than before. Alone, it searches for a new board, new pieces, a new puzzle to become a part of, where it can eventually blend in and form a new life.
