PLHNSmflN 1986 EDITOR — KRIS McQUEN ASSISTANT EDITORS — TINA ALLEN, LAURA WILLIAMSON, ANN RACICH CREATIVE WRITING — OPENING PAGES w f 1 e’re characters in a four act play called High School. The plot is thick with insecurity, kaleido- scope moods and rebellion. The theme is “growing up in the eighties.” The setting reflects the turbulence we feel — skid marks in the parking lot, graffiti on the desks, shrieks of laughter and anger and despair everywhere. The costumes are by Calvin Klein and Madonna and Playing at life Having fun; only Sometimes studying Each of us is different; we re experimenting now; a Potpourri of Radiant faces — Exotic or Silly or Solemn; complex Individuals Observing each other; Never Sure who we are. Springsteen and, of course, JCPenney. Clocks turn; years pass; styles and fads come and go; the scenes are played out, from fresh- man fears to senior celebrations. We take our final bows, knowing the play will continue, with younger actors, louder music, more bizarre costumes and different “stock lines,” but we have learned something here. In our search for individuality, we have discovered that we are all somehow the same, and the need for EXPRESSION is a universal theme, felt by every generation, transcending time. The media center is one place to get some extra studying done. Yes? Now what would you like to know? O, 9o '°f The studious are mind machines, operating at peak efficiency long after the others have run down. jk OPENING Love those preppie-gods!! The few, the proud the PREP MONSTERS. Sentinels of everything that wool, tartan, and weejuns stand for. The prerequisite polo with the collar just right. The rag wool sweater looking good over a 700% cotton oxford. It's a gimmie that a prep will wear the striped boxers under the red tab Levi's or peeking out of Khaki walkers. Prep is more than clothing though. It's an attitude. An attitude you can take golfing, to the tennis courts, or to the polo field. You wear it, just like the threads that feel sooo good. Wearing one or more Swatch-type watches is very in. m a a LU O' OPENING 5 6 OPENING These juniors flex their muscles in preparation for the powderpuff game. Muscles shimmer with sweat; Faces contort in concentration and pain; The athlete expresses himself through unity of mind and body. Mike Miller seems happy to prepare for battle or practice. The Forenza Gang Some venture to be the best dressed in school; •‘Forenza Espirit — they all look so cool. Like earth near water, the latest trends erode, and fresh ones ride in on a new wave. (Dusic, ITIusic, music! This homecoming was dedicated to Dorothy Lambert who was one of the originators of Plainfield homecoming parade and festivities which started in 1952. Mrs. Lambert died in 1985. Juniors really ''wound-up for this Homecoming! A near-perfect replica of a Wildcat?? Freshmen went back in time to the 50's with their float. OWDER PUFF 10 OPENING Clorox Bleach would love to have Greg Lange promote their product after one of his football games. OPENING 11 OohM! That's just swell. Hey, rain or shine, we always make it to the beach! 12 OPENING King and queen — Mike Miller and Melissa Ivlow Senior attendants — Ben Bates and DeDe Brandalino 14 OPENING Sophomore attendants — Lone Rousenelos and John Ivlow Junior attendants — Jane Besley and Grant Avery Freshman attendants — Angie McKenna and Sean Kmeley OPENING 15 CO O' CO ... the last performance of a four year run; time for tears to flow and roses to fly — expressions of our mixed sadness and joy. 16 SENIORS CHRISTOPHER M. Originally from Sydney, Australia, he is looking forward to getting back home and see- ing his family and friends. Some of Craig’s most memorable experiences were prom and graduation. After retur- ning home, he plans to enjoy the beach and to attend college in Sydney for four years. 82 STUDENT LIFE Casts Everybody loves wearing those “California'' shorts. Dana Ryan caught in the act. 34 Much of the student body gets into the California spirit by wearing their mid-thigh length flowered shorts. A group of fans enjoy a moment at the game. Third Row: Mr. Reiderer, Rob Brinkman, Dave Hurst, Greg Prodehl, Paul Chapell, Dave Smith, Jason Barrowman, Jenny Wozniak. Led by captains Brad Stanfield and Rob Brinkman, the boys completed their third consecutive winning season with an overall record of 11-5 and a con- ference record of 4-2. The fine team showings at Crete, Benet, the Little Seven meet, and regionals were a few of the highlights. Junior Brad Stanfield captured the MVP award and a 10th place finish at conference, earning all-conference honors. Rich Blegen established a new senior record of 17:02, while brother Pat received the Harrier Pride Award. Reaching new heights, the girls’ team surpassed 6 school records in the '85 season. With a mark of 13- 2, the Harriers set a new record for most season vic- tories. The highlight of the season was the first-ever conference championship with Jenny Larson and Jenny Hayes receiving all-conference honors. Coach Reiderer commented It was a great team effort. The sophomore and junior class records for 2.5 miles were broken by MVP Larson (15.27) and Kari Perinar (17:39), respectively. Perinar won the Harrier Pride Award. After winning 3 invitationals, Larson returned to the ISU meet where she placed 11th against a field of 205 runners, earning all-state honors for a second consecutive year. 148 SPORTS —VARSITY Rich Blegen crosses the finish line as Coach Hunt takes a timing. Ben Bates is a champion — at the state level, at national level and at rHS. He is our “one-man” swim team. During his freshman year he was one of three freshmen in the state to qualify for the State Swim Meet; his sophomore year he placed 1st in the state in the Individual Medley and 7th in the But- terfly. As returning champion, he again placed 1st in the state in the IM and 2nd in the Butterfly his junior year. His senior year found Ben with a severe ankle injury at State Meet time and he placed 12th in the IM. By April 86, in top form again Ben competed in the YMCA Nationals in Orlando, FL. He placed 2nd in the 200IM, 4th in the 200 Backstroke, and 5th in the 200 Butterfly in the nation. Ben has signed to swim at NCAA Div. I Univ. of Florida in Gainesville. 150 SPORTS — VARSITY IMok, «■! 1st Row: Janet Hayes, Jill Riley. Mr. Conrad said they prob- ably would have won more if it weren't for a rained- out game. The team earned a 4th place at con- ference championships, and they hope to be in the athletic program next year. All players asked said that the Bolingbrook game, which they won 3-2. was the best game of all. Some players get a little too excited over the matches. Chris Lucky once hit a Geneva opponent in the head with an overhead slam. When asked how many lobs went over the fence, she said about ten, but only one went on the roof. Janet Hayes put two balls into centerfield bleachers. Barb Burnette follows through with a backhand. Catie Kasper returns a shot against Geneva. The golf team finished their season with four losses. The team placed 6th in the Will County Tour- nament and the Little Seven Con- ference. If there is any one member of the Golf Team that deserves special recogni- tion it is Steve Haas. Not only was Haas on the all conference team, but he was also the first player in the history of Plain- field to be chosen to play in the state tournament. Gayle Waldvogal. and Terri Ayers. Terri Ayers was the most improved player this season. When asked how it felt when they had the Little Seven Con- ference Championship, the common response was Great! It was a great feeling of accomplishment and boosted the team's confidence. The teams that they enjoyed playing the most included Kaneland, Waubon- sie. and Oswego. Chris Cozzi and Matt DeSutter s perfor- | mance at the sectional meet must be the 1 highlight. Chris qualified for state competition by throwing the discus 151'10 . Matt put the snot 52'4V4 . MVP Greg Prodehl placed 1st in the con- ference meet in the high hurdles; Matt DeSutter placed 1 st in the shot. 159 Paul Raspolich banging out one of his school record 45 hits.
