Text from Pages 1 - 216 of the 1980 volume:

“For mem’ry has painted this perfect day With colors that never fade, And we find at the end of a perfect day The soul of a friend we’ve made.” Carrie Jacobs Bond PQjlw Mlui 19S0 l-figk Cckool PLofaffiM, iMittOiS Ccb dztm C tfih Rstfito LLfmdct U(me LdUtg 4 “A haze on the far horizon, The infinite, tender sky, The ripe, rich tint of the cornfields, And all over upland and lowland The charm of the goldenrod — Some of us call it Autumn, And others call it God.” W. H. Carruth Do i tRjOX t Ow Uy Pojubjito. was the prayer of all involved in the 28th annual Homecoming parade... but it did! 10 The 1979 Homecoming, “Plainfield Goes to the Movies,” underwent many changes this year at the hands of a homecoming committee comprised of faculty and administrators. Powder putf teams held tryouts and were limited to 35 members per team. Two dress-up days were cut from Homecom- ing Week, leaving Klasn Day on Wednesday, West- ern Day on Thursday, and Green and White Day on Friday. The homecoming games were played immediately before the junior-senior powder puff game, instead of during the school day as they had been played in previous years. The Homecoming Court was also revised for 1979. Eight girls were chosen as queen candidates, and eight boys were chosen for king candidates. Three junior girls and three sophomore girls were voted attendant candidates. Four freshman candi- dates represented their class. The candidates were honored at the coronation before the powder puff game and also rode in the parade. After an overwhelming senior powder puff vic- tory, the bonfire burned, unchanged, for its second consecutive year. li The Wildcats unsuccessfully battled the Morris Redskins in their homecoming bout, losing the con- test 35-6. The juniors fared much better than the Wildcats, winning the float competition, games, and entire sweepstakes. The freshman float cap- tured second place; the senior float followed, and the sophomore float placed fourth. Should we risk it?” Mike Santolin, Cindy Sharp, Maura Keniley, and Rick Pedersen take a break. A few last-minute adjustments. ' 'A Qtcvu is BoW' Nina and Mike reign over the homecoming WLS disc jockey Jeff Davis called the tunes at the homecoming dance dance. “A Star is Born.” Larry Hughes and Tammy Domark share a dance. 15 CUSS OF NINETEEN EIGHIV OACSiuorro Success is to-bfc wecsuaci net $©• hiuclt by tbc position, that one bos leocbed in fe e as by tbe obstadks uJdck be bas ooeacowe. vJufe, trying to. The dinner concert began with Renaissance brass music played by members of the band. The singers then entered the dining room and took their places, singing a few intro- ductory numbers. During the dinner more songs were sung to celebrate the upcoming Christmas season. Jim Yarbrough, choir director, brought the soon-to-be yearly tradi- tion with him from Illinois State Uni- versity. Funds for the dinner were raised by the choirs through candle and candy sales. Jester Arlyn Eisenbrandt swipes a taste from the figgy pudding, the dessert for medieval madrigal dinners. Litter bearer Tom Tibbie parades the boar’s head (artificial for this din- ner) throughout the dining hall. 99 'The Man Who Came to Dinner This year’s fall play, “The Man Who Came to Dinner, was presented from November 8 through November 10 in the auditorium. The play is set in the 1930’s, the gol- den age of radio. The plot revolves around a famous radio personality, Sheridan Whiteside (played by Dan Ewing], who decides to A ho nor” a small- town family by coming to their house for dinner, which places the town in an uproar. When the personality arrives, he sups on a piece of ice and breaks his hip, forcing him to remain in the house against his will. He proceeds to dominate the Stanley household. In a twist ending, Whiteside, finally leaving the small town, slips again on his departure from the house. Whiteside's secretary (Debbie Hatchett) informs a reporter (Joel Lichtenwalter) that the personality is seeing no one. The eccentric Harriet Stanley (Nyoka Polyak) bores Whiteside with her life story. The stu- dents learn how to handle cameras, how to attain proper lighting, and how to develop film and make prints. The club does some work for the Fielder and Plainsman, the school’s newspaper and yearbook. The club expanded its activities this year to include a photography contest for members and non-members. The con- test was judged by the Camera House in Joliet, who also provided the prizes. To cover the cost of such supplies as film developing paper, chemicals, and use of the dark room, the twenty-six members pay dues each year. Star Team Shines “Students who belong to the STAR Team meet different people, gain experience in speaking in front of an audience, learn poise and stage manner and generally have fun,” states Miss Wilkens, coach of the speech team since its beginning five years ago. This year’s team was the largest ever fielded by the high school, with twenty-six students forming a complete double team. The team took third at the Little Seven Conference meet and another third at the dis- trict meet held at Plainfield High School. Four team members advanced from this meet to the sectional meet. These speakers were Ellen Wilker, Kelly Keister, Carolyn Schmitz, and Jeanette Gruber. One student made it through preliminary competition to the final round. Carolyn Schmitz received sixth place. Under the direction of Mr. Jim Yarbrough, known to his students as “Mr. Y,” four choirs were created. The Madrigal Choir sings sixteenth century Christmas music. The main event for this choir is its madrigal dinner held in December, but the group also participates in concerts, and sings at various churches, local schools and shopping malls. The Concert Choir consists of mostly juniors and seniors, although freshmen and sophomores are not excluded. This choir participates in three concerts throughout the year: a fall con- cert, winter concert, and spring concert. The members sing a mass at the Christmas concert and choose pop selections to pres- ent at their spring concert. The Freshmen Swing Choir also sings at concerts. This group combines dance and song for their presentations. The Treble Choir is an all-girl choir comprised of freshmen, along with a few members from the other classes. The members sing at the various concerts throughout the year. The choirs sold candy to raise funds this year and sponsored a magic show held in the auditorium. Several members from each choir participated in the Solo and Ensemble contest held at the high school in March. FRESHMAN SWING CHOIR: Front row — Peggy Vant. Jo Anne FYazier, Nyoka Polyak. We hope our scrapbook of Plainfield High School has brought a smile — at a friend, yourself, a remembered moment. As seniors, we will be leaving this high school with mem- ories of teachers, tests, and hectic yearbook deadlines, but we will also leave with many memories of friends and laughter — smiles. We hope to think of these moments first when we reminisce, which is why we devoted these pages to some smiling faces. To the sen- iors, good luck in whatever you choose to do, and to those who have more years at Plain- field High School, keep smiling. 178 179 — A — Abens, Michael 8,14,18,113, B 150 Adam, George 82 Adsit, Cindy 54,100,107,117, 1118,120, 126 pAdsit, Dave 68,108,117,120 Agrue, John 68 Alander, Link 100,110 Alberico, Carla 68,120,154 Albright, Charles 68,117,180 Albright, Susan 18 Allen, Cinda Lea 68,120 Allen, Jennifer 82 Allen, Ronald 54 Ailing, Sharyl 54 Allshouse, David 54 Ally, Rrian 54 Alson, Linda 54 Altenhoff, Tom 68 Anderson, Andi 68,126 Anderson, Cathi 18,113,114,115 Anderson, Linda 18,49,114,115, f 117,120,126,130,140,141,143 I Anderson, Robert 19,112,138, ■ 139 Anderson, Shari 54,64,134 Anderson, William 54 Andreae, Karen 54 Andres, Jerry Andros, Elaine Andros, George 68 Angelus, John 82 Angelus, Michael 19 Anzelc, Thomas Ardaugh, Loretta 54,113,126 Argoudelis, Alexandra 54,106, 115,118,120,126 Argoudelis, JoAnn 68 Argoudelis, John 68,136 Argoudelis, Maria 54 Ashhaugh, Brent 68,136,144, • 146 Ashby, Mark 19,37,124,125, 134,135,150 Ashley, Deborah 54 Austin, Kimberly 54 Avery, Michael 68,136 Avram, Pamela Ayers, Kelly 82,125,141 Ayers, Kim 68 — B — Babich, Paul 54 Baer, Laura 54 Baker, Burton 82,137 Baker, Donald 19 Baker, Ellen 68 Baltz, Jamie 82 Bambic, David 3,19 Bambic, Janet 68 Bangert, Patricia 16,19, 37,49, 114.128 Bangert, Tom 68 Baran.Jeff 19,113,114,135,184 Barker, Diane 82,122 Barner, Barbara 19,107,113, 114 Barner, James 82,153 Barnes, Edith 82,106,113,116, Barnes, James 54,113,116,120, 130 Barrowman, Kimberly 68,126 Bartholme, Dee 82,106,113, 117,120,130 Bates, Robert 82 Bates, Thomas 68 Batiz, Jamie Bauer, Cathleen 20,106,118,120 Beahm, Donald 68 Bearse, David 5,20,124,125,134 Beaver, Mitzi 68 Beck, Tina 82 Beckman, Chari 20 Beckman, Kristan 69,110 Bedwell, Donna 20,106,114, 115.129 Bellafiore, Vicki 69,79,100,108, 109,112,115 Bennett, Adam 69 Bennett, Brian 82 Bennett, David 54 Bennett, Jeffrey 20 Bennett, Pamela 20,117,120 Benson, Kim 69 Benson, Scott 54,134 Bergbower, Jeffrey 20,134,135 Berglund, Holly 54 Berglund, Kevin 82 Bergthold, John 69 Berlin, Tammy 69,79,100,105, 108,112,106,107 Betzwiser, Karen 69 Betz wiser, Robert 55, 150 Beverly, Jane 55 Beyer, Gayle 20 Beyer, Thomas 69,142 Biernat, Donna 82,113 Biggerstaff, Paul Binzen, Brian 16 Binzen, Kevin 21 Binzen, Mark 55 Birsa, Kathleen 82 Birsa, Melissa 82,109, 131,137 Bisset, Jerry 82 Blackwell, Peggy 6,82, 119 Blake, Eric 69 Blake, Jeffrey 21 Block, Brian 82,138 Blogg, Roy 21 Blum, Donald 69 Bolte, Jalayne 10,21,126 Bolte, Ray 83 Bolton, Dawn 69 Bolton, Dean 22 Bonilla, Pat 129 Book, Brenda 69,149 Book, Bruce 83 Booth, Lisa 83,126 Borden, Shanna 69 Boris, Amy 83, 122 Boris, Barbara 55 Boris, Patrick 83,147 Bosman, Michael 69,146 Bosman, Michelle 83 Bossert, Teresa 68, 69,79,106, 107,108 Bostanehe, John 55 Bough ton, Scott 55 Bowers, Brenda 69, 129 Boyd, Carol 22 Boyd, Deborah 22 Boyd, Jim 55 Boyd, Phillip 22,126 Boyd, Susan 83,109,153 Bozman, Connie 55 Bozman, Diane 69 Bozman, Tim 55 Bozman, Tina 83 Bragg, Sally 55,96,118,120, 126,130 Bragg, Thomas 22,142 Bramel, Michael 69,115,138 Brandherm, Amy 83,141 Brandherm, Mary 22,49 Branner, Keith 69,136 Brazeal, Michelle 55 Brazzale, Christine 83 Brazzale, Tony 69 Breslin, Mark 88,93,153 Breslin, Patrick 55,106,112 Brewer, Mike Brinkman, Carol 22,148 Broncato, Patrick 83,147 Bronk, Jennifer 83,109,156 Brooks, Daw n 69 Brooks, Kindra 83 s| Brown, Jeffers 69 Rrown, Mark 69 Brown, Robert D. 69 Bruno, Ray $3 Bruno, Ron 55 Buehler, Shaunna 55 Buerger, Debra 69 Buldak,;JamesT44 Buldak, Thomas 22 .
