A teacher's job is to teach, but to be a truly outstanding teacher, one must show a real concern for his students, make the subject as interesting to them as it is to him, and most important, inject pride in learning. Mr. Ellis is all of these and more. He is a unique teacher in. that his classes are both interest- ing and informative. His corny jokes, his celebrity bulletin-board, his penny-tossing antics, and his eraser-behind-the-back-flips, a l 1 contribute to a well spent fifty- five minutes. But, he is even more than this. He can spot a puzzled look in a minute and makes sure the problem is remedied before going on. Mr. Ellis is vitally concerned with school affairs. He is one of 'those responsible for bringing a foreign exchange student to our school. In 1963, he was adviser to the Senior Class and to PLAINS- MAN and was responsible for both of their floats. The crowning of the queen and the arrangements for the bonfire were also under his supervision. Since his first year here in 1962, he has been involved in the PLAINSMAN, and has been ad- viser to the Quill and Scroll since 1966. He is very proud of his birth place, Wood River, which he in- sists was the starting place of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, al- though no history book will back him up. The 1968 PLAINSMAN is proudly dedicated to Mr. Ellis, who is proudly dedicated to the 1968 PLAINSMAN. ELLIS LAND SAD HAPPY 1 SHY

. . . Ana jlirum mr. llilletzger I l ll l It is indeed an honor and a pleasure to be able to make my first contribution to the twentieth edition of the Plainsman. We, as a school family, are deeply indebted to those who started this fine tradition and also to those who have worked so hard to continue it and bring it to its pres- ent level of excellence. A thank you as well as congratulations on a job well done is also in order for those responsible for the production of the 1968 Plainsman. This publication, in its twenty volumes is and has been the result of fine cooperative spirit and coordinated effort of the educational unit it represents, the Plainfield Community Consoli- dated Schools. To the staff, the student body, the Board of Education, and the community who have helped make it such a well functioning unit, I am deeplyjndebted since it has made my first year as superintendent a collection of pleasant experiences. Pictured herein are the best of the many fine opportunities that are, have been, and will be avail- able to the students of the Plainfield Schools. For the graduation seniors, We can only hope that you have taken full advantage of those that were most meaningful to you, and that you will, as you pursue your life's goals, continue to seek wholesome experiences on the same plane. For those who remain, you are charged with the responsibility of seeking out and becoming involved in those activities that will lend the most to your own educational advancement. I sincerely hope that this is only the first of many fine productions and experiences that I will be able to share with you and others who may follow in your footsteps. 490,563 Dale E.
