'Dedication A prominent businessman in Plainfield for many years, Mr. Richard Ira Jones has been very active in various civic organizations. He has held such offices as: president of the Illinois Hard- ware Merchants Organization, Secretary-Treasurer of the Plainfield Cemetery Association, Presi- dent of the Plainfield Fire Department, Commander and Adjutant of the American Legion, and is a member of the draft board. Mr. Jones has been a member of the school board for 30 years and president since 1956. In this capacity, he has proven his interest in the youth of Plainfield. Under his capable leadership, the board has done much in furthering the quality of our school and Plainfield in general. Only through the interest of its citizens can a community grow, learn, and prosper. For his many years of service to our community, Mr. R. I. Jones has been chosen by the 1966 Plainsman staff as its “leading man” in the “Cast of Thousands”. 4

It holds a meeting the third Monday of every month. However, these meetings are not the only time the board spends planning the betterment of our school system. Many other meetings and functions are attended by the members. A few representatives from the board are invited to each soc-hop that is given. This year, the School Board purchased new uniforms for the entire High School Band. They also approved, for the seniors, a trip to Washington, D.C., for which the class of ’66 had been hoping for several years. These and all the other things are greatly ap- preciated by the students of Plainfield High School. 6
