Where Do We Go From Here? ti =3) Well, class of 1989, our time has come. The final year is almost over, and upon graduation, our high school careers will come to a close. | don’t know about you, but it’s pretty hard for me to believe. For about thirteen years, we have eagerly awaited these final moments, and before you know, it seemed as if they would never arrive. Fortunately for us, they have. But exactly how fortunate are we; truly? For once we are released from the Plainfield Public — School system, no longer will we be able to rely upon the security that public education has provided. Think about it. Since the beginning of Kindergarten, we've known exactly where we stood. Every day, 2 we've known where we had to go, what time we had . to be there, what we were expected to do (although some of us chose not to do it), what we couldn't do (although some of us chose to do it, anyway), and what time we were to leave. If that isn ‘t security, then | don't know what is. The routine was set for us, and all we had to do was follow it. Even when we were on vacation, we knew that there was always a spot reserved for us back at school. But as the saying goes, “All good ne must come to an end.” Whether we like it or not, soon we must leave Plainfield High School. Thus, there are questions that every one of us must ask himself or herself: “Where will I go from here? What shall | do with myself when I'll have to fend for myself?’’ | would hope that you have already considered these and other related issues, for if you haven’t, you are losing ground rapidly. Yet even if these thoughts have not crossed your mind, be aware that your life is by no means complete once you walk out of those silver doors for the last time. In fact, the truth of it all is that your life, and mine, will be only beginning. We've only just begun to experience the challenges, the successes, the disappointments, and the calamities that await us in an even more intense, raw, - realistic form. Once we depart from these walls, the protective shields will be gone, and the harsh realities of life will become more evident to us than ever before. As our parents and even some of us already know, it’s a truly cold world out there, and all of us must function in it, be it in higher education, or at work, or on the Street. It is hoped that all of us will use the lessons learned during our years at PHS to challenge and successfully overcome every ob- stacle placed before us in the years ahead. It is a hope that we will benefit from the mistakes that we will make in the process of succeeding, so that we’ll know not to make them again. Best of luck to all of you in all of your future endeavors. Nima A. Warfield
