Achieving the moon is now history. I thank you for staying on this road to success....education and the achievement of a high school diploma. I am puffed up and proud of you. You have completed this round, but don't even think about stopping because your future demands that you go a few more rounds. Life is worth all you can give it. You deserve success and I wish I could will it to you. But, you have to earn it, usually through hard work. So, as the English statesman, Daniel Burnham, wrote Make no little plans:they have no magic to stir men's blood...Make big plans, aim high in hope and work . 4 Superintendent's Message Public Schools of Plainfield NEW JERSEY Public Schools of Plainfield NEW JERSEY PLAINFIELD HIGH SCHOOL 950 Park Avenue - 07060 It is with a great deal of pleasure that I take this opportunity to congratulate the stellar Class of 1988. Four short years ago you enter Plainfield High School with the ultimate goal of this day coming to fruition. During your stay, I have been extremely proud of you, for when the odds said that many of you would not succeed, you were able to realize this dream. As you depart this institution, please keep in mind the spirit of togetherness that we attempted to create. These days have been some of the most important days that you will ever live. With this in mind, please keep the message consistently in your head that if you can respect and be true to yourselves, you will in turn to one another. Your feeling of self worth, which we attempted to instill will do much to make you a successful, contributing member of this society. As you have often heard me say that your attitude will determine your altitude, which means how high you will fly in this life. Fly high Seniors of Plainfield High School, don't be tempted to go astray, for today oppor- tunity abounds in this country, but for only those who seek excellence. You are the best so be the best and always remember that Plainfield High School loves you and will continue to support you as you move ahead to the future. Vy de Mfc Stanley W. I shall never forget you, nor the times we endured, our triumphs, our learning experiences, our seemingly unlimited growth and development, our struggle to make a difference at Plainfield High School and our community. In reflection, I recall that I entered Plainfield High School, as a new teacher, along with all of you. As a Freshmen teacher I eagerly took the challenge of becoming your class advisor. Thereafter, I made a promise to all of you that I would remain your advisor through the duration. Through those four years we moved forward, sometimes failing, yet always picking ourselves up, pushing forward. We have shunned the odds, climbed unsettled mountains, and finally now, we are able to see the light on the other side of the tunnel-and now that light is bleaming brightly, our hopes have be- come our realities. We have made a difference! However, my fellow Seniors(and I shall always be one of you) , I must caution you; difficult times lie ahead. Yet we will continue to grow and develop as human beings. I am confident that you all know that when there is growth and success there is always hard work and pain, and sometimes suffering. Yet, it will make us strong. I advise you to continue to strive towards excellence, be the best at whatever you decide to do. Take pride in your community, remain steadfast to your convictions. Set the tone for leadership in the 1990's and beyond. You are the future leaders of America. Take the leadership and pave the way for a new beginning. Share with the larger society your concern for the issues of our time. May we all never allow the issues of world hunger, poverty, and unfairness in our society and around the world to be convenitently hidden in the coffers of inattention and indifference. Lay claim to what you want and forever fight for yourself and your fellow humans, it is you who will improve yourself and society. I shall miss you, may God be with you always, with best regards, 7 aie Jeff Truitt, ee Advisor Advisor’s Message 15 nt W. Schlough ADMINISTRATION O. Porter 18 Faculty and Staff E. The keystone of the program is United States History — a two year program required by the state of New Jersey. Students interested in government can elect U.S. Law and History and have Political Action instead of U.S. History 1 and 2, courses designed for the activist. These students form the backbone of student government, participate in a state-wide Model Congress. In U.S. History II, an Honors program is offered as well. : Faculty and Staff 33 J. EPITAPH TO A FRIEND IN MEMORY OF KIRK BRADBY Kirk, your untimely death Has left us with much sorrow You are too young not to Have a tomorrow. We are told that it is God’s will and that we all Must die someday But a child, Why a child? Why must a child die today? It is difficult for us To accept your untimely death Yet, we need to express our Thoughts and sadness To emote, To cry, To deal With life’s madness. Kirk, we will remember Your friendly greeting and Warm smile, your expressive eyes Filled with much Love Surely you were Sent from heaven above. Oh, How we weep At this time of great sorrow Knowing for you on earth There is no tomorrow. God must give strength To your parents, brothers, family And friends Help them understand your Tragic end. Help them understand Why there is no tomorrow Comfort them in this time Of despair, let them know you are safe in his heavenly hands. Written by: William E. Gary February 17, 1988 IN MEMORIAM With a great deal of devotion and sincerity, we, the members of the Plainfield High School family dedicate the 1988 edition of the Milestone to the memory of Howard D. .Rozzelle. Understanding, patient, supportive, encouraging, generous .... these words describe one of Plainfield High School's most dedicated educators. Mr. Rozzelle supervised the Business Department for thirteen years. He introduced and developed many innovative educational programs. Students receive local, state, and national recognition as a result of these programs. During his tenure at Plainfield High School, he also served as vice-principal from 1977 to 1979 and held membership and actively participated in many business and professional organizations. Many people became acquainted with Mr. Rozzelle through his varied interests. He knew and appreciated music, the performing arts, and literary works. He was an accomplished chess player and an avid sports fan. Mr. Rozzelle demonstrated his pride in high school students by attending many student activities and sporting events. We regret the loss of Mr. Rozzelle, but the pain of his loss will be diminished by his living contributions to the educational system and to the Auk Plainfield High School family collectively and individually.
