A college must be judged not only by excellent teachers, but by the spirit and philosophy which permeate it from top to bottom. It is not your environment, it is you — the quality of your minds, the integrity of your souls, and the determination of your wills — that will decide your future and shape your lives. Young man, find your ideal. When you find it, bow down before it and worship it as if it were the very God. I am disturbed, I am uneasy about man because we have no guarantee that when we train a man’s mind, we will train his heart; no guarantee that when we increase a man’s knowledge, we will increase his goodness. There is no necessary correlation between knowledge and goodness. We'll always remember the rush deadlines, games of trivial pursuit, the surprise party, visits to your home, and the pig outs. You were more to us than just an advisor, you were a friend. Not many advisors get a bunch of workers like us (not to sound conceited), but not many clubs get an advisor like you. We know that you have already called us a bad name by now, but we'd like to say we love you and we'll miss you. We've overcome many obstacles together; let’s keep in touch. Words like determination and dedication only begin to describe this year’s student council. Having been advisorless and then having to share our advisor with the senior class council, we have had to be more independent than any other Student Council officers have ever needed to be before. Still, we have continued to be bold and outspoken. We have never lost site of our original goals. To the members of the Class of 87, It has truly been a pleasure serving you as president these past two years. I feel that we, as aclass, have accomplished a great deal. We were the first class to bring back the tradition of the junior prom, which turned out to be a success. We also have had numerous functions to raise money for our prom. I would wish for everyone happiness and success in the future. Let’s strive and work hard to reach our goals. Seniors, which will you choo se? Will it be the smooth road that offers no resistance nor challenges? I think not. Or will it be the road cluttered with rocks, curvy with mountains and filled with potholes? Yes! that’s the road for you — my seniors. I know that your four years at PHS have prepared you with the skills necessary to climb any mountain placed be- fore you and, avoid any potholes or rocks found along life’s highway. You are the mirror image of Plainfield, Let no one tell you different. Always hold your head high and keep your face toward the sun. Remember as you pass this way — that your life will do the si nging. | am glad that the singing of our lives met and joined together for the past two years to make Plainfield a better school. Therefore, your Plainfield High family and I send you into this world with our love and our blessings that the music from your life will make this a better world. Sylvia Parker-Bernard Advisor Community 183 To dream the impossible dream, To fight the unbeatable foe, To bear with unbearable sorrow, To run where the brave dare not go. To right the unrightable wrong, To love pure and chaste from afar, To try when your arms are too weary, To reach the unreachable star! This is my quest, to follow that star, No matter how hopeless, no matter how far; To fight for the right without questions or pause, To be willing to march into hell for a heavenly cause! And I know, if Ill only be true To this glorious quest, That my heart will lie peaceful and calm, When I'm laid to my rest, And the world will be better for this; That one man, scorned and covered with scars, Still strove with his last ounce of courage, To reach the unreachable stars. 184 Farewell fro e26ut oee aed aa TIN AAS en ae NG Wi Mi - ‘ os | oe seed aes j } Bs i We YY LY ii fp 4f J “Dy ii) ar Ned at Le
