aie ones The Performing cee Our beginning in 1982 was an overwhelming success in the face of numerous odds. This birth was that of Perfor- mance Workshop, Modern Dance, and Photographic Sci- ence, respectively English, Physical Education, and science courses. The teachers, Mrs. Sheila Thorpe, with a back- ground in Speech and Dramatic Arts, Ms. Laverne Jones bringing the knowledge of Modern Dance, and Mr. Matt Zullo, an expert in photography were elated because of the hard work and planning necessary to bring these classes to fruition. The students were equally thrilled because they would have the opportunity to perform and exhibit their many talents, yet receive credit simultaneously. “The Girl in the Mirror” by Bruce Jacoby, a two act play, and “An Evening of Dance”, a dance recital are two major productions of which we may be proud. Every student in the classes either performed on stage, worked on various stage crews, or produced publicity photos for these shows. The expertise of professionals in theater were sought and Mr. Edward Carrion, an actor dancer was hired as an ad- junct to work with the staff and students. These efforts netted an estimated combined audience of 1800 students and staff. The success of the program lies not in talents alone, but rather in the dedication, hardwork, and perserverance demonstrated by the students. Spring Exhibit Why are we proud of the PHS Art Department? These are just some of the examples of the excellent work created by Plainfield students. The annual art exhibit is held in the Library each Spring and it is always a joy to behold. These may be the work of students who graduated last year, of the present Senior Class, or even the work of some underclass members, but they do display the caliber of art work achieved by the students of Plainfield High School.
