Homecoming - 1983 Avery successful contest was conducted this year to choose the Homecom- ing Queen. Approximately seventy-seven girls entered the contest. First they had to have nominating petitions from their classmates. Then they wrote an essay which was judged by a committee of English teachers. The names had been removed from the essays before being judged by the teachers. The five top essayists in each class were chosen as the first group of winners. Next these winners were screened by the Homecoming Committee. They were asked sev- eral questions and were judged on their poise, the quality of their answers, appearance and overall charm. The group was narrowed down to three contestants from each class and then the winners were chosen ina vote by the students. The Homecoming Queen was announced at a very elegant semiformal dance held at the school. If this tradition is to be continued, the school has an excellent format to follow, All that would be needed next year is greater student participation at the Home- coming Dance. He could add a great deal of class to the school year and it could be said that the Class of โ84 established the tradition.
