Student Council The Plainfield Student Council, under the direction of Mr. Seymour Marsh is an active student government organization. Through meetings in which every homeroom is repre- sented, the council seeks solutions to school problems and addresses student body con- cerns. The council promotes amiable student- teacher relationships by keeping in touch with the faculty as well as the student body. Officers of the council are committed to project and maintain a positive image, one that will be acknowledged by members of the community and serve as role models to its peers. The officers hope that such role mod- els will urge the student body to exemplify the same deportment. Advisor of Student Council Mr. Seymour Marsh

Welcome to PHS The students and staff of Plainfield High School wel- come to the school system our new Superintendent, Mrs. Greta D. Shepherd. Mrs. Shepherd comes to us from the East Orange Public School System. She held many posi- tions there over a ten year period, but the most important ones were Assistant Superintendent of Schools and Act- ing Superintendent of Schools. We trust that Mrs. Shep- herd will have a long and productive tenure in Plainfield. We need this stablizing influence. We also welcome two new members of the Plainfield High School Administrative Mrs. Greta D. Positive Pride at PHS PHS and its students have set a goal to present a positive image of their school to the community and to society in general. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s daughter, Yolanda and Malcolm X’s daughter, Attallah, visited the high school auditorium to present their case in encouraging a positive attitude in the way of life of many of today's black teenagers. Among the other positive image-building activi- ties were: the Gospel Choir performing at Rockefeller Center; the PHS Marching Band at the Columbus Day Parade; the National Honor Society sponsoring an annual Christmas Party for Senior Citizens; the participation of our two-time champions PHS team in the Rutger’s Bowl TV Quiz Show; the coronation of the Homecom- ing Queen in the first annual Homecoming pageant; a student sponsored trip to Europe during the Spring vacation, and the Donald A. Finley Special Olympics which is held each Spring for our Special Education students, and the new Aerospace program, which we hope will prepare some of our students for a career in this field Dr. Carr, Atallah Shabazz, Yolanda King, Deborah Stapleton, President of the Plain- field Arts Council.
