Fans Of The Performing Arts In 1979 at the inception of FOPA (Fans of the Performing Arts), under the leadership of Mrs. Sheila Thorpe, the group was dedi- cated to present to the student body of Plainfield High School, theater and dance through both traditional and or creative works. Over the next four years of our exis- tence, we have produced a full length play, “Wine in the Wilderness”, several original compositions, ‘‘The Cone Heads at Christ- mas’’, the recent ‘‘Lunchroom Blues”, and a number of poetic dramatic readings with song and, dance, both original and pub- lished for assembly programs. Also, FOPA has entered and placed as high as fifth in Kean College’s Annual Poetry Reading Contest. Our current directions are varied, to con- tinue in the vein of the past, to expand our productions in conjunction with the newly formed Performing Arts classes, to add an on going dance group, and to begin a trav- eling company. With these goals ahead, Mrs. Thorpe has a dedicated troupe and other advisors to help share the load, Mr. Michael Mosley, Mr. John Smith, and Mrs. Laverne Jones. If we had a motto, it might be something like this, ‘Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve.’ FOPA is doing it. 12 | can't read. 1982 saw the launching of the PHS Aerospace program .. The Aerospace Club, Civil Air Patrol Cadet Squadron, and an Aerospace course. Exploring career opportunities, studying the science of flight, and constructing model aircraft are aerospace course and club activities.
