The Science department has 15 full time teachers plus a dept. supervisor who teaches 2 periods per day. The science curriculum con- sists of 16 courses making up 74 classes. Most of these classes meet 5 periods per week. 14 classes meet 7 periods per week and one class meets 8 periods per week. There are about 1600 students taking science courses. The science department sponsors the Earth club (Mr. Wong), the chess club (Mr. Samim), the physicians club (Mrs. Watt) the photography club (Mr. Zullo) and FOPA (Mr. Mosley). 22

Shaw Univer- sity The Mathematics Department offers a program which provides the opportunity for students to participate in a traditional high school mathematics program through calculus. Students who suc- cessfully complete the calculus course are eligible to apply for ad- vanced college placement. A general mathematics course is available for those students who do not plan to attend college. In addition, a program especially designed for the students who are deficient in basic skills exists on all grade levels.
