The Milestone “Think Tank” puts it all together. Out of a $20, only one bag of chips! TT 3M... “MAGNIFICENT MILESTONE MEMBERS” is perhaps the best description for the dedicated young people who have produced the 1980 Milestone. Giving up school holidays or weekends to put in long hours of work became the rule; instead of the exception. Yes, occasional snacks and planned parties did “ease some of the pain.” The quiet, but firm leadership of Editor-in-Chief, YOLANDA STANCIL, constantly motivated the group. DARON RIVERS, Layout editor frequently dazzled us with his on-the-spot creativity. The scholarly approach of Special feature and Sports editor, HASSANA HAQQ challenged the staff to try new approaches. JESUS TAVAREZ and CLARENCE EDWARDS input contributed much to her area. Faculty editor, RON CARTER, was imported from the Big Apple last year. Fortunately, he passed our crash course on “who teaches what.” MARK WALKER put in a lot of time supporting Ron. Art editor, CRAIG GEORGES was dubbed “the invisible man”, because he preferred to work in solitude. His cool demeanor prevailed even while we sent him “back to the drawing board.” His support cast in- cluded CHARLES BRASWELL, TOD RICHARDSON, and DAROZ RIVERS. The tables were turned when JEFF MERRITT and CRYSTAL DAVIS served as Underclassmen Club Editors and both were grateful for the aid of Krystal Ferguson, Adrienne Armstrong and Kim Howard. Academic editor JACKIE WILSON was aided by Todd McAllister. TERRI HALSEY ’tended the typing pool; ably assisted by Christine Guy and Joyce Rosa. The ’80 staff has worked hard to tell your story. Math Club and Pep Squad iP L to R: Warren Jones, Brian Boccher, Ken Burns, Jesus Tavarez, Mr. McMullen, Nhan Nguyen, Hassana Haqq, Richard Wright, Wanza Collier, Norma George. THE VOLLEYBALL CLUB The volleyball club has been divided itself into two groups each session and played real games. Boys and girls of mixed sizes have been playing against each other with good sportsmanship, increased skills and sheer enjoyment. Every student of every grade level is having a wonderful time in this fun club. PEP SQUAD One of the newest clubs at the high school this year is the pep squad. Approximately fifty young ladies with lots of pep and loads of school spirit, assisted the cheerleaders in rousing the basketball fans and cheer- ing our team on to victory. Under the direction of Mrs. Pat Harper, Mrs. Pat Paylor and Ms. Terry McDonald, the squad received recognition for their stupendous school spirit.
