Whether facial or artistic or scientific, they have been around since people can remember... Facial expressions range from tragic to comic, representing all of the variations in between. It is far too simplistic to say that a smiling face is happy, or that a frowning face is sad. The demeanor may be a mask for the inner feelings... paiD | HOME Expression does not limit itself to the human face. Its definition can be expanded to include a word or phrase, a symbolic mathematical form, a work of art. In short, expressions are projections of thoughts and feelings. They may be fleeting or permanant. They may be lengthy or brief. They may be original or imitative. They are visible here at Plainfield High School. They are captured here on the pages that follow. Miss Edwards believes that the team’s spirit has made her job a lot easier and given her the confidence she lacked in her first year of coaching. “T’ve learned to appreciate women’s athletics more since I became involved in coaching,” said Miss Edwards. “This has helped motivate the team to not only improve their skills, but also, to become fine representatives of our school both in competition as well as in sportsmanship.” “Winning is important but not everything,” said Miss Edwards, ‘though not all the girls partici- pate in the varsity matches, they are still part of the team.’ Many of the girls are inexperienced but they are highly motivated and several have natural tennis skills. Their enthusiastic approach to both practices and matches will enable them to continue to improve their record in varsity competition.
