THE HERMIAD A Peaceful Day S I opened my eyes thls molnlng I thought Oh what a peaceful day no school no work nothmg to do no one to bother me Those thoughts, so peaceful, so soothlng, were suddenly mterrupted Some one yelled Get up there s work to be done So began thls peaceful ay When I sat down at the table I was as hungry as a bear Then Mom ald Im sorly dear but your waffles are cold and there IQ no more batter lhere IS some cereal ln the closet Cereal' When I had my mouth ready for waffles and sy rup' After breakfast was over Mom sald Dear wlll you please go to tl e store for me and do the shopp1ng It lsn t much only potatoes flour sugar, bread a can of peas, carrots, and a few othel ltelllb I went On the way home I ran lnto Mrs Brown She greeted me w 1th I am glad that I met you, lerry I was just golng over to see you W1ll you take care of Johnny for me today He really IS a good boy and not much bother l could tlllllk of no re xson for refusmg, so promptly at one oclock I went to take care of Johnny IJIOVSII the really good boy Oh Johnny w s a good boy He amused Il1YllS6lf yery well golng from one game to anothcr He played ball by hlmself and enjoyed It lH1I116T1S6ly upsettmg a table ann some vases and knocklng plctures oil' the wall When I took the ball and glove away from hlm he pouted for a whlle but soon saw that he w ouldn t get anywhere that yvay and started playlng the part ot a commando Thmkmg that Johnny had finally settled down to some qulet game I sat down ln a chaxr plcked up a magazme and began to read a thrxllmg murder story Eyerythlng ln the house was qulet Suddenly from tle shadowy hall came the command Got you put em up I Jumped almo out of my skm It was only Johnny Fmally flye oclock came Johnny s mother arr1yed and I went home hungry tlred and cross As I entered the house I was met by Mom wxth thx announcement We haye had our supper you w1ll have to throw some thmg together for yourself When you flmsh eatlng clean up the kltchen so I ate and cleaned up the klchen, thmkmg that at least I would have the eyemng to my self but around eyen o clock m came my slster Mary and all of her frlends We are haylng a surprlse party for Henry she sald ' What a peaceful dayl' I slghed and lapsed 1nt0 a bllssful coma Margaret Wakely 19a 1 V V V ' V ' .
