Unsuccessful Placer ' s little Hillmen were unsuccessful in winning many games during the 1945 grid season. They defeated the Roseville Baby Tigers by a 6-to-O score and lost all other games. Pictured above are, first row: Hamburg, Simpson, Williams, Lemos, Grijalva. Catlin, Bravo, McDoniels. Second row: Coach Edmiston, Hughes, Riecke, Juarros, Ulmer, Yocum, Goff. Bruce Denison ' s direction produced this year the most outstanding tennis team that Placer has had in many years. Competition with Oroville, Placer- ville, Folsom, Grass Valley, Marysville, and San Juan proved the team ' s worth. There are sixteen squad members.

Pigskin Puzzle The 1945 Varsity football team, coached by Coach Kendall Arnett, came fourth in Sierra Foot- hill League competition. The Hillmen had a tough season of 1945 with an inexperienced team trying to defend their 1944 championship. Members of the first string were: Laird, McDowell, Facha, Gilbert, Van Riper, Pyle, Burns, Kennon, Scott, and Jacinto. Other members of the team were: Parsons, Kenney, Sprogue, Rocha, Ricci, Tuttle, Johnson, Waymire, Morris. Maze, Munoz, Gilbert, Hattrup, French (head manager), Gower, Mickey (mascot), R. Olmstead, G. Olmstead (as- sistant managers).

BURNS JOHNSON HARMS LEAK RICCI KENNON Under the Hoop The Placer Hillmen, under the direction of Coach Ralph LeFebvre, ended the season by defeating Yuba City, 24 to 23, to tie with that team for the basement spot m the Sierra Foothill League. ,,,,,,, ir u Placer won the consolation final at the fourth annual basketball tournament on Febru- ary 23, by defeating El Dorado High School, 27 to 17. Coach LeFebvre ' s usual starting lineup was five of the six players: Duane Weaver, An- gelo Lemos, Arthur Hoyes, lack Kennon, Gene Leak (captain), and Paul Claiborne. Babes in Arms Placers B basketball season was a hard one to take. The little Hillmen started the 1946 season by defeating Marysville by one point.
