There is a person at Pius who has greatly influenced us all. his name- Fr Milbauer. Pius students wel- comed the new principal and won- dered what the year would generate As the days, weeks, and months passed, we. the students, discovered a friend in a high place who was will- ing to listen to our opinions He has made Pius X a high school to be proud of. He stressed academics, but made the everyday routine not so routine with visits from D.J. ' s. and the addition of Coke machines. As for Fr. Milbauer. he has acheived the goal of being a respected principal and caring friend of all the students at Pius X. Every student has a goal that he wants to acheive. and must work to achclvc it. whether It be studying to receive an A In Algebra, or prac ticing long hours on the field for the game on Friday night, or just trying to make it through the week. When a student strives for a goal he focuses on the goal and puts forth all his effort. If a fellow student loses his focus his friends turn him back to the goal and keep him striving. Each stu- dent sets an example and helps a friend In need. Teachers at Plus seem to have a new purpose besides sharing their knowledge with us. The new pur- pose- to become the friend of each student. They do odd favors, com- municate with students more, and are willing to sacraflce their time to aid a student In need. The students at Pius wouldn ' t be able to survive with out the present teachers at Plus, meaning: if the teachers did not care, who would? Every teacher Is guilty of bending the rules a little for a student, just as a friend would. For this and all they do for the students at Plus- thank you The sports teams of Plus all have a goal: to be number one-in league, in unity, and in sportsmanship. The teams strive to acheive their goals with practice, determination and pure sweat- The members of the team become as one player, each with his own role. The ability to do so requires trust and sacraflce. This type of relationship strengthens the team, enabling it to strive for the goal. -Karen Kozlowski- striving for our goals 9 above- Excuse me, what clubs are these? right- Paul has many female admirers who are always nearby. 10 striving for our goals striving for our goals 1 1 12 striving lor our goals A Year In The Life Of. © Pius X High School. 1984 — a year of potential. RING This year the class of 85 experienced a unique and successful Junior Ring Cere- mony. Fr. Campion explained to the Ju- niors the meaning of their rings. For the Junior class it symbolizes unity and friendship, but for each individual it re- presents memories of the good and bad times. It also means the Junior class is no longer underclassmen. The class added extra touches to their ceremony, such things as reciting a poem which was writ- ten by Angela Hobbs, and the singing of our class song, Out Here On My Own, by Jenni Garcia and Angelica Bravo. A special thanks is given to the Sophomore class for providing the refreshments and flowers and for making this day a memo- rable one for the Junior Class. - Monique Figueroa - above- Tony enjoys the company ot his female friends. below- Aubrey and Monique take time to posi? for the camera above- Friendship is what the Junior class is . about. 24 jr ring OUT HERE ON OUR OWN. jr ring 25 Service . With academics at Pius being very demanding, the students also find time to help others that are of need and one may wonder - When do these things happen? Looking back in the past year, especially at Thanksgiving, Christmas and Lent, the students of Pius all contributed to the families in the surrounding parishes that were lacking the food or toys to make a wonderful holiday. The Student Council with the help of the Social Action Club, NHS and CSF, toys were wrapped, boxes of food and turkeys were bought and money was sent to help those that were less fortunate. Juniors and Seniors also provided one of the best things they could, and that was the gift of life. With organization and nervous Juniors and Seniors, the 3rd Annual Blood Drive was a suc- cess! The Senior Religion classes began a tradition visiting the patients at the West View Convalescent Hospital. They feel that it has added to their moral values, as well as getting to know old people well. The Seniors also hope that future Religion classes continue this practice. Another dimension of Pius Service is the Annual Blood Drive becoming semi-annual. The response was overwhelming, with 157 people signing up to donate blood, and only 71 actually donating. The toys and food drives during the most important holidays of the year, let children and adults of local parishes to have a bountiful table at Thanksgiving and gifts under the tree at Christmas. Many thought the class would not make it through all four years at Pius. It seems as though cverytime a person turned around the class was in trouble. Many friendships have been acquired over the years and they will certainly be cherished. We have shared many special moments and they have been the best of our lives. We have seen each other grow from a frightened freshman to pimples, dates, ackwardness. Homecomings, principals, Proms and finally to being a GRADUATING SENIOR!! The future for us is uncertain, but we can make it! We are determined and strong! Let us go forth from our Graduation Day, remember our four years at Pius, and make our mark in the world!! Thanks for the memories, Denise Hurst 128 seniors ALBA, RICHARD Lettermans Club 4. Frosh Football; J.V. Football; Varsity Football; Track 1. 2, 4; Senate 4 Goal- study Police Science. ANGULO.
