The occasion -- Sixty-eight freshmen about to begin a journey which would bring them to the doorstep of success. Motivated by a deep desire to label themselves as true Piusters, the hikers struggle to over- come every obstacle which would impede an event- ful outcome. As the years passed, the paths became narrower, and the mountains, steeper. In spite of this, de- termined travelers continued on and up. And now, at the summit of the last mountain -- their goal almost in sight -- they pause and think of allthe joys and sorrows of the past four years. From where they now stand, the Freshmen's path seems to be a winding one, filled with obstacles that must be overcome. This doesn't seem to bother the Freshman class of '64, though! With a willing spirit and happy smile, they begin the climb that will bring them to the summit of Rainbow Trail. By illustrations at the board, Philip De Frank, Pat Pavan, Rosemary Guida, Margo Smith, Anthony Detzi, Patricia Murphy, Andrew Ducharme, and Joanne Martino prove the theories studied in the book concerning buoyancy. ae | . Ket WHO SAYS HISTORY IS BORING? Our students, Joseph Racciato, Mario Giovanni, and Anthony Liberto trace early European civilization, as Stephanie Visi, Philomena Sabatine, Molly Rica, Mary Jo Ruggiero, and Angella DeNardo follow in their textbooks. Mathematician Louis Crafa demonstrates the position of numbers on the X-axis, while Petrina Molle, Linda Villiano, Alvaro Ruduzzi, John Vicario, Michael Sabatino, Joseph Galatiato, Pat Vietro, and Edward Nerino pay attention. The Challenge Tarcisio Campo points to the new freshmen religion book, ''Going to God , and Gloria Quinn, Darlene Filingo, Mary Capozzolo, Nancy Difilippantonio, Marino Saveri, Neil Roberti, and Peter Racciato share his interest. Freshmen boys, Joseph Racciato, Tighe Scott, Warren Nelson, and Richard Smith, check in the file for reading material. Mario Giovanni and Pat Vietro concentrate on building reading skill. The tenth grade literature students, James Sylvester, Judith Paolini, Thomas Fedon, Joyce Detzi, Elizabeth Smith, Barbara Swinson, and Kathleen Stackhouse, thoroughly examine the structure of a medieval castle explained by Joseph Romano and Michael Vigiolto. ‘Near A idway, Sophomores march forward as they begin to plant their feet on sturdy ground. They have gone through the hardest period, that of adjusting, and now they continue to attain the goals of Pius X High School through their own work and the wonderful assistance of our faculty. Yet there have been many wonderful moments, and these are the ones that will remain in the minds of the graduates of '64 as they prepare to go into the world. For the time being, their futures are indefinite; but, if these guys and gals continue to show the determination and perseverance that have marked their four years at Pius, only success can result. Just a few years later, the same song played again to honor the President for the last time. People wept as the honor guard stood around his coffin--draped in the American flag--and paid their final salute to their Commander-in- Chief. Now we have come to accept the consequences of that tragedy. The spirited, confident figure of John F. Kennedy is gone. We no longer see that Kennedy grin on television or that characteristic speaking pose with a fore-finger pointing to the unreachable. But we will always remember what this young and vigorous leader did for our country. Let it not be said that John Fitzgerald Kennedy died in vain. Let us go forward to meet the challenge, but let us always remember his words: My fellow Americans : ask not what your country can do for you--ask what you can do for your country. As leaders and directors of the student body, the council members exert their influence best through good example. They have been selected by popular vote of their fellow classmates who have given them the responsibility to maintain order, promote better student-teacher relation- ships, and to provide a forum for expression. With their high ideals and initiative they strive to carry out the policies and principles of our school. Dn Our Student Council During one of the weekly meetings, John Racciato clarifies a fine point in the newly adopted Student Council Consti- tution, while the other interested members listen carefully. Tradition Ranks The Christmas tree takes on a special meaning to the whole student body, as our principal, Father Loeper, bestows the traditional blessing. Just as Christmas would be incomplete without the tree and presents, so would the school year be without the various traditions which have been passed down and added to each year. Many of them, such as weekly Mass, are so mucha part ofeach of us that it is difficult to imagine school life without them. All of these traditions will leave a definite and lasting mark on the characters of all Piusters. A touch of true Christmas spirit is added to the hearts of all in the retelling of the Birth of Christ in drama form by the senior class. The Christmas wreath, decorated by the Student Council members, replaces the advent wreath with the coming of Christmas. Hluste Makers RISE MEN OF DESTINY! Inspired by the tremendous work accomplished by the United Nations, our Glee Club sings in praise of this worldwide organization. James Ciliberti's clarinet solo delights the audience, Brighten ‘An 2Y Da Ly ! a aaa Bas | ee” UE | ’ ; . i a oe ‘ | % Our talented pianist, Joseph Angelini, displays his musical ability with his rendition of ''B Flat Minor Concerto. One of the highlights of the school year is the annual Spring Musicale. The '63 program was enthusiastically received by all who attended. Its success is due to the hard work of Sister Maria Bona, combined with hours of practice and the careful guidance of our director, Mr. Angelini. Soprano girls raise their voices in joyful harmony. Smiling seniors and past graduates, Alfred De Ren- zis and Lorraine Leraris, Richard Fusakio and Connie Scagliotta, arrive at the dance hall which is decorated to the theme of Sleigh bells and Holly. Most A joyous Christmas spirit reigns at the Holly Hop as couples dance to the music. One of our Seniors, Stephanie Zelenka, and her es- cort Marty Figlioli, take time out from dancing to pose for the photographer. ©Cnchantled ©Oventn GS During the course ofthe evening, James Detzi and Lorraine Leraris pose by the picturesque fountain, one of the highlights of their junior prom. Dancers inafestive mood glide across the decorated ballroom at the Prom. A happy quartet, Robert Renaldo, Mary Honeker, Antoinette Di Pierro, and Thomas Sterlachini, admire the lovely garden scene of ''Moonlight and Roses. Last year's queen, Carol Garafalo, crowns Our Lady as the honor court sings and pays tribute on this solemn occasion. Father McHale, guest speaker for our May Procession, is an inspiration for all. Devotion And Htonor Go Htand In Stan’ One of the many aspects of our annual award assembly is captured as Donna Comunale receives a basketball letter from Judy Bavaria. Gey Fond Farewell The class of '63 has gradu- ated but they will not be for- gotten. Now, theyarea part of the world and are striv- ing to live up to the ideals whichthey have been taught at Pius X. Carol Garafalo and Alfred DeRenzis lead the graduates into the auditorium. Parents and friends join gradu- ating seniors in praying for fu- ture success at their Baccalau- reate Mass. Senior boys await the beginning of Mass. Representing the class of '63, Pat Confalone bids adieu to his Alma Mater inhis captivating Valedictory speech. Inhis messageto the graduates, Monsignor J. Francis Tucker, O.S.F.S.,reviews the Catholic principles which will help them in future years. Happiness tinted with sentiment shows on the faces of our new graduates.
