We came to Pius X; Trodding the lowly earth, we came. Gazing into the far-reaches of space, We found a goal. Brightly it burned so as to outshine the stars of the winter sky; Yet distant and ever so inaccessible it seemed. We would make the journey; We would attain our goal. A Countdown! A Blast! We had begun. It was a flight of aspiration toward a goal of achievement. It required fortitude, knowledge, charity...and Years. And how quickly those years passed! At times we were discouraged; at times, blinded by false hopes; But, as if spurred on by a cry of Excelsior! We mounted the skies, Refreshed by Purity, Sanctified by Piety, Encouraged by Loyalty. And we drew nearer. Now our goal is but moments before us. And once here, we gaze farther into space And find new goals. We realize that this is not the end of our journey. We are proud of our flight thus far. We shall be proud also, of the others who are to come. Countdown, Blastoff, a long Journey--all behind us; Before us lies our Target; and beyond that, the Future. Muth, Superintendent of the Pen Argyl Joint Schools. Dr. Muth delivered a few well-chosen words which were greatly appreciated by the entire student body, and especially by the newly installed officers. Our new student council members await with much enthusiasm to embarkon their duties as representatives of their fellow students. They have fervently recited the pledge of faithful dedication to all their responsi- bilities. A student council privilege is the annual decorating of the Christmas trees. Ann Romano, Judith Kristof, Carol Garafalo, Maureen Prit- chard, Alfred De Renzis, Richard Fusakio, and Nicholas Sabatine share this happy moment as they complete the tree in our foyer. PROTECTS OUR PRINCIPLES. A three-day retreat in the beginning of the school year enables the student body to prepare for the real purpose in life. Steve Ferrazzano, Benny Manas- seri, Salvatore Mondello, Peter Scarlese, and Alfred Ruggiero have captured the spirit of the retreat. SPIRITUAL TRADITIONS MY LORD AND MY GOD! During our weekly Mass, the students of Pius X High School have an opportunity to raise their minds and hearts in prayer. Robert Renaldo and James Orlando assist Father Loep er as he offers the Holy Sacrifice. A wonderful opportunity started by our principal, Father Loeper, is to par- ticipate in the Men's Choir. This select group is given the chance tobe- come familiar with the liturgical singing of the church. VENI, VENI, EMMANUEL! As the Advent candle is lighted, the spirit of” anticipation is also enkindled in the hearts of the students. Some of the sophomore girls are present in the foyer for this beautiful ceremony as Louis Rossigno represents the entire class. SAFEGUARD OUR PIETY. The presentation by the senior class of the Christmas story has simplicity, but its great impact impresses upon the student body the importance of keeping Christ in Christmas. Father Loeper looks pleased as John Racciato proudly displays his new class ring. James Detzi, Antoinette Di Pierro, Lorraine Leraris, Suzanne Embardino, Marilyn Ruggiero, and Regina Mondello still glow with happiness after the momentous Ring Ceremony. | INTERESTING MOMENTS temo en iio ear acs ne Si@ oN Last year Pius X High School was host to an exchange student from Bolivia, Wilma Paz. We have studied hard; We have learned much. And if we have worked with difficulty, We have worked with equal happiness; A happiness dimmed only by the fact That we are soon to leave Pius X. Another segment of our journey into the future has ended; We pause now for a few moments of nostalgia. But when the hour comes for that final farewell, Pius X High School will not be left behind. Our school will accompany us to every job and college classroom, Into every home and even to foreign soil. Each time we work or play, each time we pray or think or speak, We will do it just a little better; we will act just a little more Christlike, Because we are students of Pius X. For the sacred principles we have learned here Will accompany us throughout our journey; And when that journey is finally ended, We will carry these same principles with us as we fly to meet our Creator.
