Below: Ken SemkcKQB) and Tom Col- lins (DL) those smiles definitely mean a party! f This year, Pitzer athletes made up 45% of the Sagehen football team. The season win loss ratio, 3:6, was maintained from last year. Some outstanding individual accomplishments by Pitzer players called for division-wide as well as na- tional recognition. As well as maintain- ing quality in athletic accomplishments, the team gained more overall recognition for excelling academically. Good move guys!! The unity of our team is a result of the fact that we all get along together, and we hang out together, on AND off season. — well said number 9! 1 II 1 IIBHllllt Just one more hiJIU

Be- low: Mike W. sets another personal record! Senior Jeff Edwards runs his way to na- tionals!! A Pitzer first! Mike T. opens up his stride and it ' s goodbye OXY! 1987 was an outstanding year for the men ' s Pomo- na-Pitzer cross-country program. Experienced run- ners, like Jeff Edwards and Spencer Allen, were the key, as they led the way. Younger runners, like Mike Tomlinson and Mike Wranovics continued to im- prove. Rookies, like Alan Jackson, Brian Richter, and Mike Latham made an immediate impact. These ingre- dients formulated a perfect 6-0 record for SCIAC and a second place finish at the conference championships, which means, that along with Occidental, the Sage- hens are SCIAC co-champions. Also, since the youth on the squad is so strong, a team nationals bid may be no more than two years away. The big story in cross- country did not occur until the last couple of weeks of the season. It involved Pitzer senior, Jeff Edwards, who, despite being kept off the roads for 4 weeks by an injury, was able to place 4th iat the West Coast Re- gionals, which earned him a spot in the Nationals meet. A Pitzer first! There, in Michigan ' s 4° weather, sleet, and snow, Jeff proved worthy of the invitation, by finishing 71st overall, and a phenomenal 2nd in the west coast region. Congratulations to Jeff for going out in style with a dramatic ending to a fine career as a Pomona-Pitzer cross-country runner!
