Member Schools At the start of the 1929-30 bas- ket ball season Pittsville found itself confronted with a ten game schedule and no hall in which to practice. So as not to be outdone, a classroom was rigged up for practice, and plans w ere made to play all the games aw av fi om home The start of the season did not look xery promising when Colby de feated us 20 8 but December 6 we took rex enge on Auburndale which was our first league game and won by a score of 28 7 Piobably one of the best played games of the season was the Port Ed wards game on January 23 Pltts xille held the lead at the half 7 5 but a fast third quarter rally put the game on ice for the Port team The final score was 18 13 Another game w as lost to the Port Edwards team on February 20 24 18 This loss gave us no chance for winning first place in the County Conference The team to share second place with us this season was Milladore We lost an early season game to them 8 13 but we capped the season off in good shape We rex ersed the score in our final game Both games with 'Xlilladore w ere hard fought with neither team glving up until the final whistle The other three teams in the league were Rudolph, Auburndale, and the Wood County Agricultural School. Each was defeated twice by our team during the season giving Pittsxille a final standing in the con fel ence of 7 w on and 3 lost We also nlaw ed three pi actice games with the B1 on Scouts winning two out of the three games On March 26 our baskct ball team and Coach Walker were guests of H J Schneider at the State Tour nament at Madison The tiip was made in cars driven by Mr Schneider and Mr J Salter The boys had a Q od time and appreciated the oppor tunltv of going On Monday April 7 the business men gaxe a banquet to the team coach and manager at Hotel Brown The boys think there should be .4 winning team ex ery year with the support they recc xed and feel that a team plays better when they know the folks back home are boosting f th 1 On March 21 the League teams w ere given a banquet at the Wood County Normal Guy Lowman dir ector of athletics was present and gaxe the boys a fine talk We are IH debted to Mr Walch and Coach Walk er foi th1S evenings entertainment County League Track Meet Pittsxille IS again track champi on toi the third successixe year get ting 21 points Aubulndale second with 22 points and Port Edwards thnd with 17 points Thc pole xault record was shat tcI cd w hen Stcnei son crossed thc bal at fl fcet 8 inches two inches bcttci than the former iecoid Smut7cr of Aubulnclale w as high point man with lo points NIARSHFIEI D TR ACK MEE'l Plttsxille took the honois at the Mazshtleld Tlack 'Nlect bi 8 to 21 Page 42 points 100 yald dash Statfon second P fu ell third 220 vard dash Nlevei fnst and i Iosher third Broad Iump Mexcr fIIst Ros pluck third Shot put Txlcski second 'llosh ci third Pole Vault Walch sccond Ilk lhnd High lump Walch first Tylcski econd Fax ell third Relax fnst Faxell Tyicskl 'Hey tl Staffon , ...... ....... ....... ... ...........44 .. . ,. .. ........ .. ,.,.,....,....,....A.....,.. . ...,..,..,., . .......,.,..,..,.A..,.,.,..,..g..,.,..g..g..g..g..g. . .5 Ii . .g. auf 'Pr 'Z-'5 i !' 40'-1' '! ! ! i' r'5 Z'+ 'vi' 'R' 4 b 04' II' fy-,II 4..4. 4 . 4 'I ev f Q I 1 - 4 4 4 . . h'0 T ved ' P- I 4 ' ' Q H 4 - 4 4 , .. 4 ' 44 ' . 4 'Q' .
