Class Tfistory Sophomore. pear 1947-1948 Sept. 3, '47-Our first day at P. H. S. Bewildered, weren't we? Sept. 10-We meet to lea.rn school songs and cheers, much to the chagrin of thc chccr- leaders. Sept. 18-Our first rally. Meek little souls, eh, upperclassmen? Sept. 29-Same old burned-out Fire Prevention talk. Oct. 16-S. A. S. Assembly, Let's Face It Now CNahhh, let George do it.J Oct. 23-Mr. Richard Pough on The Outdoors in New England. Wish we were! Nov. 12-Freed to see the Freedom Train. Nov. 26AThanksgiving. Sad news today, turkeys. Dec. 4- lVIanners for Minorsf, John L. Lewis, take heed! Dec. 9-A lecture Conquest of Mt. Mc Kinleyf' Nothing to get up in the air about. Dec. 15-Christmas vacation is here, All of us Sophomores do capers: No more work-and no more papers. Jan. 7, '48-Mr. Carlson gives a very interesting talk on Communism, although it doesn't seem to aid our class treasury in leaving the RED, Jan. 21-Hey, boys, how 'bout this charm exhibited by the Charm Quartet. Yahooooo!!!! Jan. 30-Our able skiers from P. H. S. show supremacy in winning the Berkshire Inter- scholastic Ski Title. Feb. 12--Our classmates of The Mikado flourished dcvastat.ing costumes as the audience sat spellbound. Feb. 241-Marguerite Shoemaker entertains with a program entitled Deep Sea Diver. We are wondering if she goes DOWN TO THE SEA IN SLIPS. Mar. 12W-The Army Ground Forces Band Concert proves to be a scintillating spectacle of syncopation and superlative genius. Mar. 31-April Q-A special class is held in the second fioor Mop room during Career Conference VVeek for certain intelligentsia interested in becoming custodians. April 1- Resin on the bow, boys, here we go, said Mr. Gormane-and they went . . . at the annual orchestra concert. May 17-The muscle-bound men of P. H. S. present a palpitating pageant of pulchritude and pantomime at the annual gym exhibition. May-It is with deep sorrow and regret that we make note of the passing of Mr. Arthur Goodwin, one of our vice-principals. June 4-The well trained talent of the Pittsfield High band makes its yearly concert its usual success. June 15-A final remembrance is left. by the Class of '48 in their class day program. They leave with a job well done. June 18-Our first year at P. H. S. is terminated with the optimistic outlook of having to sit through only 10,650 more periods. 'Junior your 1948-1949 Sept. 8, '48-School opens. Only Juniors, but we're getting there! Sept. l6MAsse1nbly. So You Don't. Like Poetryf, We've changed our minds! Nov. 1--Student Council finally votes to allow smoking behind the school during the lunch periods. A light, a light, at last a light!', Nov. ll-P. H. S.-St. Joe game. VVe won, natch! Nov. 25-29-Thanksgiving vacation. Dec. 16-Junior Class Elections. For the past week the Juniors have been weighted down with a variety of campaign buttons, stickers, and tags. It's all over now! Dec. g7-Bundle Day. No homework if you bring a bundle. Wish they'd have 'em more o ten! Dec. Q3-No school 'til next year.

S. is invaded by a band of pirates who give a wonderful performance of Gilbert and Sullivan's Pirates of Penzance. Feb. 14--St. Valentine finds us all busily writing essays, entitled Why Democracy Works. Feb. 19-2'7MVacation-at last! Mar. 8-Basketball tournament in Springfield-lost by one point! Mar. 1Q-Congratulations. The Pen wins a first place at Folumbia again. Mar. Q4-31-Career Week. What shall we be if we ever grow up? April 4--Debate with Lee High School. Should the voting age be lowered to eighteen? Yes, yes, of course. April 5-Easter Vacation. April 17-We all go off to church to show Our Easter suits and new chapeaux. April 29MOur big night. The Junior Prom. June 2-Band concert. Any ear plugs in the house? June 18-Congratulations to Uoach Fox and his baseball team for winning the State Baseball Championship. '- June 22-Just one more year to go! Sept. Oct Oct Oct. . 7-Adams booster game rally-Yay! Yay! VVe get out at one today! . ll-School Department receives a dual-controlled car for teaching us to drive Senior year 1949-1950 7, '49-lley, we're SENIORS! ! Our class rings have arrived-how long will you keep yours, boys? . All others using public highways do so at their own risk. 10-Senior Class elections-ltlorehead by a landslide! Oct. 20-Archery assembly. Only Cupid's shots could be more accurate Nov. ll-P. H. S. 4-9-St. Joe 0. Aren't the new band uniforms snazzy? Nov. Q4-Thank the Lord for Thanksgivingg we get two days out! Dec. Q1-Au revoir, auf VViedersehen, Hasta la vista, and farewell, Mr. Innis. Dec. Jan. Jan. Jan. Jan. Feb. Feb . Feb . Feb. Mar. Null' said! 10- Meet Me in St. Louis, Broadway, here we come! 17-Hallelujah, we're liberated for nine whole days. 27-Only seven more weeks until vacation! P. H. S. 29-St. Joe 30. 3-M 15- l 9-Easter bunny, bring me a nice big basket-basketball player, that is! April 16fAnother blessed vacation. May 12-Glee Club Foncert. Young ladies CPD should be heard as well as seen. May 41- These Flags Still Flyf, Mr. Edward L. Jeambey's theme is Freedom: soon it will be ours, too. May 5-Junior Prom, 'Tm gonna dance with a dolly . . . May.30-P. II. S. Band' members spent a quiet afternoon with their throbbing feet. lov- 1 June ugly arranged on pillows. 1-Oh, what is so rare as a day in June? One when we're not in school. June Qfliand concert. 'l'here's something about a hometown band . . . .lunc 9--f'lass Day. Gad, these gowns are hot! June 18-Graduation at last. And what now, O Future?
