194-0 - 1941 With joyous hearts and eager eyes alight The Class of Nineteen Forty-three arrived. Young and light-hearted, free from any care, Gladly we entered thru those magic doors To halls where Wisdonfs goddess sits enthroned. The European war seemed far awayf We laughed and played, with sc-an-e a thought about 'l'he fear that reigned ln-yond the ou-an wastes. The elms that stretched forth their protecting arms, The towering dome that shimmered in the sun, The fresh green ivy twining o'er the walls, The llag pole with Old Glory waving free,- These things of beauty gave us love of truth And roused a song of gladness in our hearts. Our entrance into High School marked the start Of something new. VVit,h eager, happy minds We wondered what the next three years would bring. Soon we had made new friends. We came to feel 'l'hat now we were a part ol' Pittsfield lligh. We learned to treat with deference and respect All of our upperelassmen, who, we thought, Were much too high and mighty for our taste. 1201-
