Hockey 19112 - 1.943 Uwing to unfavorable skating conditions, the hockey team was forced to reduce its activities this year to three encounters and a limited amount of practice. Other games would have been scheduled, but as a result of the erratic weather, any such plans had to be dropped. The Pittsfield High starting sextct consisted of the able veterans Johnny Evans and llank Flynn at the wing positions, Louis Giovanetti at center, and Bill Bunt and Ken Ferry at the defense. Al lioudreau, playing his first year as goalie, tended the nets in fine fashion. Bill Hunt, Louis Giovanetti, and Johnny Evans were the high scorers of the team, each having three goals. ln their first encounter, the boys got off to a bad start and were handed a 2-0 defeat by the Darrow School. Although the team fought hard throughout the game, it was unable to overcome the powerful Darrow six. After a period of inactivity due to bad weather, Pittsfield and Darrow met for the second time. The team avenged its previous defeat by overwhelming the Darrow team by a score of 9-2. ln the final game of the season, the boys met the Lebanon School sextet, and on bad ice scrapped with them in a 2-2 deadlock. The Pittsfield team, though not a great aggregation during the season, made a creditable showing and proved that the boys had the fight and ability to win. 1 104.1

l,lTTSFIl'fI.ll llltill Stzuooi. 1913 Basfeefba The basketball fans of Pittsfield lfigh School had something to cheer about this season. In recent years there have been a few stars on each team, but this year was an exceptional one for us at Pittsfield lfigh, for each member of the varsity was a star in his own right. Our boys tasted defeat only three times during their entire campaign, but these three were hcart-breakers. Pittsfield opened the season with two brilliant road victories, the victims being Williamstown and Bennington. llowever, our morale was dealt a crushing blow at our home court debut. An underdog Dalton team emerged victor in a furious contest by the slim margin of one point. Gritting their teeth, the Purple and White quintet swept through the remaining first half of the schedule with impressive wins over Drury, Adams, St. Joe tXorth Adamsj, and our hard-fighting arch-rival, St. Joe of Pittsfield. Our jersey men renewed hostilities for the second half of the schedule by play ing Williamstown. Led by phenomenal Bill lfart, the inspired Williamstown tealn defeated P. ll. S. in a close contest. Then the varsity bounced back to the win column, overwhelming Bennington, and chalking up in rapid succession, victories over Dalton, Drury, and Adams. With the defeat of St. Joe of Pittsfield 51-31, the city title was clenched. The team completed its schedule by trouncing St. .loscph of North Adams. Then came the thrilling County series. Pittsfield won the first game Q12-35, but in the second contest Lce avenged its previous defeat, nosing out Pittsfield by one heart-breaking point. Much to the joy of the Shire City fans, the third game went to Pittsfield 39-21. In a special lied Cross benefit, Pittsfield maintained its high rank by defeating a visiting Westfield quintet 31-28. For a fine record, hats off to the Berkshire County Champions of 19 13. JI lossy
