Well, here it is, Shades of Things to Come, the 1988 edition of the Saukee Yearbook! I hope that you will enjoy the annual, and that it will bring back many memories in years to come. There are several people that I would like to thank for giving up their time to put the annual together. Members of the staff were Salma Ansari, Jill Clendenny, Amy Raftery, Julie Tomhave, Sandy Whewell, Melissa York, and Toyia Zumwalt. You are the best!I would especially like to thank Mrs. Dunn for being the annual sponsor and for all of your extra treats. Thank you, Mr. Mellon, for helping set up dates for pictures and Mr. Fox for taking all of the class, organization and sports pictures. Thanks to all the students for donating all of the fun pictures. To the underclassmen, good luck, have fun, and look for shades of things to come! Good Luck to all of my classmates and friends. I hope all of your hopes and dreams come true!!!! Kathy Sheppard Editor “Ode To Seniors’’ Here we are in our final moments, It’s slipped away too fast. But now we’ll enter another world, And tuck away our past. We’ve lived our lives from day to day. Not knowing what comes next. But with each other to lean on, We succeeded in doing our best. So now we’ll go our separate ways, To seek and maybe find. We say good-bye to P.H.S., But it will always be in our minds. a

Dedication Mr. Toby Smith is retiring this year after 34 years of teaching. He started out his teaching career in Barry for one year and the next four years he spent at Higbee Junior High. The remaining 29 years of his teaching career were here at Pittsfield High School. Not only did Mr. Smith offer his time and hard work here as a teacher, he also spent many years as a coach. He taught such classes as health, P.E., and CO-OP. Mr. Smith coached girls’ softball, golf, baseball, helped with boys’ track, and basketball head coach. In 1982, Mr. Smith led the boys’ golf team to a Class A State Golf Championship victory. Mr. Smith and his wife, Patty, have a son Steve and a daughter Stephanie Bess, and four granddaughters. After years of offering his time and services to us, Mr. Smith has decided to retire from teaching and take on new endeavors. Whatever he decides to do in the future, there is no doubt he will be missed very much. Mr. Jim Hirsch is retiring after 37 years of teaching. He started his career at Ewing High School. He taught advanced mathematics, and he also coached boys’ baseball and girls’softball. From there he went on to Philadelphia, Missouri, where he taught advanced math and P.E. and coached track, basketball, baseball, and softball. In 1957, he was hired to teach math and coach boys’ basketball and baseball. Later on he coached the girls’ basketball team and track. Mr. Hirsch and his wife Carole have one daughter Lisa who now resides in Memphis. There are many credits to Mr. Hirsch’s name, one of which is coaching the Lady Saukees and taking them to Champaign in 1986, where they finished fourth in the state. He will be missed very much at PHS, and we wish him happiness in his retirement. We, your classmates and friends, remember you with many loving thoughts. You touched each of us with your friendly smile and your bubbly personality. You have dra wn us closer together as a class, and we will treasure your memory always. In Memory of Tina Daniels
