Ed Franklin was born to be a teacher. He had an inquiring mind — he wanted to see things that interested him. This quality led Ed to teach in several foreign countries which many of us had never ever heard of, and to travel widely. He loved people and enjoyed meeting them. Even though Ed had been held prisoner in a foreign country for eighteen months he still held no grudges against his captors. Ed loved young people and wanted to help them. He had wide interests that led him into historical preservation, theatre, and politics. He tried to input this interest in creative activities to his students. He believed that people both young and old were worthwhile. Ed was a moral person with high ideals but compassion and understanding of those who differed from him. When Ed was killed in an auto crash, our community and our school lost a valuable citizen. He leaves a void which will not soon be filled.
