SAUKEE PITTSFIELD HIGH SCHOOL PITTSFIELD, ILLINOIS Volume 44 Ed Franklin was born to be a teacher. He had an inquiring mind — he wanted to see things that interested him. This quality led Ed to teach in several foreign countries which many of us had never ever heard of, and to travel widely. He loved people and enjoyed meeting them. Even though Ed had been held prisoner in a foreign country for eighteen months he still held no grudges against his captors. Ed loved young people and wanted to help them. He had wide interests that led him into historical preservation, theatre, and politics. He tried to input this interest in creative activities to his students. He believed that people both young and old were worthwhile. Ed was a moral person with high ideals but compassion and understanding of those who differed from him. When Ed was killed in an auto crash, our community and our school lost a valuable citizen. He leaves a void which will not soon be filled. Annual staff has been an exciting experience for me this year. I had a big staff of hard working friends who kept working even while I was banging my head against the chair. We tried many new ideas, and some definitely worked better than others. I want to thank everyone who gave me support, suggestions, and fun pictures. I also want to thank Judy Grimes for designing the cover, Mr. Robb for our memory page, Mr. Sandidge for taking pictures, Lisa Gay and Julie Dunn for being co-editors, and Becky Lemons for all of her extra help. Mrs. Durall stood behind me all year, and I know I couldn’t have done it without her. “I put it all together, I gave it my best I hope as you read it, it passes your test. I send it forth with a tiny little prayer That this edition is as good as last year’s.” Good luck in the future to all my friends in the senior class, and best wishes to the future seniors. I hope this annual stores many happy memories for each and every one of you. 3 1. Rod Stewart?? 2. The Rockettes 3. Don’t look at me! 4. Let go, it’s mine!!! 5. Open wide! 6. Finally in her place. 13 Our last year at P.H.S. has finally arrived! This year’s Senior Class officers were Tim Giger, President; Linda Adams, Vice-President; Shelly Stotler, Secretary; Sandy Snyder, Treasurer. Our 1981 Homecoming Queen was Amy Dean, and her 6 attendants were Michelle DeVine, Cristy Renoud, Pam Miller, Sandy Snyder, Shelly Rush, Betsey Martin. The honorary attendant was Shelly Mason. Our beautiful halls received a first place ribbon. Our outstanding Student Council members were President Becky Lemons, Eleanor Claus, Judy Grimes, Jeff Maxwell, Mary Sheppard, and Michelle DeVine. The 1982 Senior Cheerleaders, Pam Miller, Amy Dean, Sandy Frazier, Mary Frazier, and Shelly Mason cheered our basketball team, who were Scott Sanderson, Dwight Durall, Dan Christensen, Greg Allen, and Drew Lovell, on to our 4th consecutive Super-Sectional. Our Senior Saukettes whipped up great routines for our crowds. They were Betsey Martin, Linda Graham, the co-captains; Michelle DeVine, Cristy Renoud, Marcia Meyer, and Mary Sheppard. The winners of DAR and SAR awards were Amy Dean and Tim Giger. The Danforth Foundation Awards went to Marshall Burbridge and Sandy Snyder. We enjoyed our senior trip in a little different way this year. We went to the Wisconsin Dells during the summer. The girls’ basketball team did the best ever this year by winning the Regionals at North Greene and advancing to the finals of the Staunton Sectionals. The players were Ramona Smith, Shelly Stotler, Sandy Snyder, Linda Adams, Ann Dempsey, and Eleanor Claus. Our fantastic football team made it to the semi-finals. The body crushers were Tom Lyman, Marshall Burbridge, Dwight Durall, Scott Sanderson, Greg Allen, Dan Christensen, Todd Six, Darell Martin, Pat Welbourne, Richie Hoover, David Huntley, Joe Cox, and Tim Collver. Two outstanding golfers who tore up the Old Orchard Country Club course were Pattie Hass and Tim Giger. What a Senior Class! We would like to thank Mr. Johnson for all the troubles he went through, like getting our trip in the summer so that we could go to the Dell’s. Officers were Deborah Totsch, President; Becky Fulmer, Vice-President; Donita Crater, Secretary; Bernie Hobbs, Treasurer. Our Student Council members were George Graham, Ed Greening, Theresa Halpin, Linda Hatton, Tiffany Scheiwe, and Veronica Tanner. Ed Greening also served as Vice-President of Student Council. Our one varsity cheerleader, Cheryl Elledge, did a fine job all year long. We were well represented in the Saukette squad by Donita Crater, Becky Fulmer, Theresa Halpin, Linda Hatton, Julie Hurd, Julie Mixer, Bev Moffit, and Linda Moore. We had great weather for our dunking stand at the Fall Festival. Coach Onken and Coach Bennett drew crowds as they were guest “workers” Saturday afternoon. During Homecoming week we placed 4th in hall decorations but got a 2nd in the spirit yell-off. Our Homecoming attendants were Chris Butler and Donita Crater. Our big money maker for the year was selling candy. Bernie Hobbs and Pam Hull were top sellers. In February the officers started planning for Prom. Our theme was “Don’t Stop Believin’.” For the first year we had a Prom King as well as a Queen. Shellie Hayden and Pat Petty won the honors. Their court was Becky Fulmer, escorted by Ed Greening; Teresa Myers, escorted by Mike Casteel; Julie Predmore, escorted by Rick Parks; Deborah Totsch, escorted by Doug Smith. We had a super year. A big thanks to Mr. Prentice for taking the job of sponsor. Thanks also to Mr. Woods for all of his helpful hints. 40 Move over Seniors, Here we come!! Activities ROCKIN’ INTO THE NIGHT QUEEN AMY HOMECOMING ’81 Our 1981 Homecoming festivities began with Homecoming week October 5 through 10. The week started off with preppy day on Monday. Tuesday was cowboy and cowgirl day. We had ponytail day and girl hush day on Wednesday followed by boy hush day and bum day on Thursday. To top it all off, Friday was the traditional red and black day. NHS sponsored an outdoor pep rally on Friday afternoon, which included a spirit yell-off, won by the seniors, and various other unusual and exciting activities. Friday evening the crowning of our Homecoming Queen 1981, Amy Dean, was held. Her Senior attendants were Michelle DeVine, Cristy Renoud, Pam Miller, Betsey Martin, Shelly Rush, Sandy Snyder and honorary attendant, Shelly Mason. After the coronation, the cheerleaders led us in the snake dance up around the square and then back to school for our traditional bonfire. Our game was held Saturday afternoon. The Saukees were defeated in an exciting and suspenseful game against the Momence Indians with a final score of 20-15. Saturday night the Homecoming dance, sponsored by the Student Council, was held. The theme was “Rockin’ Into the Night.” Amy Dean escorted by Scott Sanderson Michelle DeVine escorted by Brian Noble Cristy Renoud escorted by Dan Christensen - • . - V • 69 Jami McClintock, Amy Dean, Scott Sanderson, Lance Wigington Pam Miller escorted by Greg Allen Sandy Snyder escorted by Tim Collver 70 Shelly Rush escorted by Pat Petty and the warriors $ «♦ . J “T M-I QUEtN 71 “Don’t Stop Believin’,” Prom 1982, wasn’t the traditional PHS Prom. The junior class made various changes. Along with having a new class sponsor, Mr. Stan Prentice, the juniors voted to have a Prom King in addition to the Prom queen. Queen Shellie Hayden and King Pat Petty reigned over this year’s prom. One other change was the movie; it was a 3d horror film, It Came From Outer Space. Entertainment was provided by the band Ohm. 72 1. Shelly Mason, Shellie Hayden, Pat Petty, Jeff Maxwell 2.
