Our goal was to capture a few of these memories and make it possible to relive them again. We hope we have met our goal. I wish also to thank everyone who has helped in any way and may I challenge the Seniors and everyone to do their best in everything they do the rest of their life. That’s a Mouse? Silly Senior girls! The Senior Class of '69-'70 will never be forgotten. It's been our greatest year in high school. Class officers were: Jim Riley, President; Sherry Biddle, Vice-President; Peggy Williams, Secretary; and Phil Smith, Treasurer. Our year started with a boom by selling magazines. Competition for high salesman was keen. Mike Watson was high winner with Fred Grote running a close second. Next came Homecoming and construction of our huge mouse for the bonfire. Our lovely Homecoming Queen, Miss Vickie Stickman, was crowned at the bonfire ceremony by Tom McCartney. Queen attendants were Debbie McGlasson and Teresa Burnell. Other Senior attendants were: Noue Niebur, Chris Capps, Chris Kattleman, and Barb Cooper. The Seniors were represented very efficiently on Student Council by Larry Edmonds, president; with Mary Borrowman, Cathy Hammitt, Sandy Odle, and Steve Gooud lending a helping hand. We had three excellent cheerleaders this year; Vickie Stickman, Bonnie Bergman, and Debbie McGlasson. Bonnie Bergman has been a cheerleader all four years. In February Picnic was presented by the Thespians and Senior Class with Vickie Stickman and Brice Irving in the leads. Other Senior roles were played by Janice Sanders, Noue Niebur, Susan Synold, Jim Riley, and Larry Edmonds. The D.A.R. and S.A.R. winners were Mary Griffeth and Steve Jenkins. It's been a great year and one we will always remember. Best of luck to all the Seniors in whatever they may do the rest of their lives and never forget the class of 1970! 22 RON ADRAIN BILL ANDERSON BOB ANDERSON BRAD BERGMAN JIM BERGMAN SHERRY BIDDLE MARK BAEHR LAURA BAKER RUSS BARTON GAY BENSON BONNIE BERGMAN PAUL BORROW MAN BILL BOREN MARY BORROWMAN LOUISE BRASS LESTER BRENDA BUTLER BROWN MIKE CAUGHLAN PEGGY CHRISTISON LARRY COLLARD BARBARA COOPER MARY LOU COUCH PHYLLIS COULTAS 25 JANICE COX TRELLA CRAWFORD BUDDY CROWDER DEBBIE DANIELS HON DAVIS GARY DEAN RANDY DEAN DEANA ROOT DeJAYNES REXAN DINSMORE CATHY DOYLE PAM DUNHAM 26 DON FOSTER RICHARD FOSTER DAVID FREDRICKSON ♦Student Council President 27 JEFF GERARD STEVE GOOUD MARY GRIFFETH FRED GROTE TAMMY HAGEN CATHY HAMMITT DEBBIE HARPER KAREN HARPOLE JAMAE JONES HARSHMAN SARAH HASKINS CHARLES HELKEY MARCIA WILLSEY HERGET ROY HIBBARD DEBBIE YOUNG HILL ROY HILL NANCY HOBKIRK BRICE IRVING STEVE JENKINS RHONDA JENNINGS BILL JOHNSON CHRIS KATTLEMAN DEAN KIRBY DAN KRAYBILL JOYCE KELLS DEBBIE LAMB PAT LANDESS RHONDA LEMONS JANE LIGHTLE MIKE LORD HAROLD LOYD BOB LOYD RONNIE MARTIN CHARLENE MCALLISTER DAN MEFFORD RAY MILLER JANET McBRIDE TOM McCARTNEY VICKI McCLINTOCK DEBBIE McGLASSON LARRY NEFF 32 REGINA NIFFEN HARRIET NORTH SANDY ODLE DEBBIE OTTER LANA PEECHER NOUE NIEBUR ROSEMARY NEFF BRENDA NEWMAN NANCY PENNOCK TED PETERS SUSAN PERRY PAM REEDER CINDY RANSOM BARBARA ROWE ♦Senior Class President JANICE SANDERS GEORGE SCRANTON CAROLINE SHAW RICK SHAW SANDY SHAW GARY SHIPLEY RICHARD SIDWELL SHARON SIDWELL 35 BOB SMITH GAIL SMITH CHRIS CAPPS SMITH JANET SMITH MARK SMITH MIKE SMITH PHIL SMITH CHARLES STALEY BRENDA THOMPSON DEBBIE ZUMWALT THORNTON ROGER TURNBAUGH VICKIE STICKMAN SUSAN SYNOLD PAUL TURNER DIXIE VAN NATTA BRENDA WALKER MURL WALSTON LARRY WATERS MIKE WATSON PHYLLIS WEINANT GRANT WHITE DEBBIE WHITTAKER CONNIE WILLENBURG BEV WILLIAMS 38 Drink up girls! No comment. Would you believe a teacher? What are you smiling about? Ah, gee! We never get too old, do we? Let's have some pep now! BEST OF LUCK, SENIORS I don't believe it! 43 The Junior Class of 71 began the year with the traditional Dunking Stand at the Fall Festival. With this successful project behind us, we moved on to November, the most important month of the year, financially. During this month four separate projects: Candy sales, Rex sales, Jr. Class play, and a basketball game were sponsored by the Juniors. All of these projects showed a profit. The rest of the year was filled with Junior Class Dance, peanut sales, and feed sales. Although it seemed like too much work at the time, the Super Prom made it all worth it. Our theme was Purple Haze and our beautiful queen, Terry Jones made it the most beautiful prom ever given. Her attendants were Debbie Roodhouse, Cindy Berry, Marcia Bergman, Sandy Harshman. Our cheerleaders this year were Joan Richards and Sandy Harshman. We can truly be proud of our Junior year and it is one we shall never forget. Our officers for this year were: Karen Brown, Assistant Vice President; Wava Grimes, Secretary; David Chamberlain, Treasurer; Bob Gooud, President; Mr. Johnson, Advisor. To begin the year with a good start we managed the trampoline at the Fall Festival. Later we had a bake sale at the Farmer's State Bank. This spring we made $525.00 from the sale of pin stripe T-shirts and class jerseys. The total number sold was 473. The Sophomore Homecoming attendants were Jane Dempsey and Susan Smith. For the bonfire we made a Beardstown tiger. We were represented in the Student Council by Jennie Daniels, Dan Barrow, Paula Chamberlain, and Phil Giger. Our two cheerleaders who attended numerous games did a great job. Our cheerleaders were Patti Hobbs and Shelley Dively, both being active for two years. Congratulations to Susan Smith and Rick Barton for getting the class citizenship awards. This has been a great year and we'll make our Junior year even greater. Representing our Freshman class in Student Council were Nancy Niebur, Bruce Winner, Mike Barton, Chester Griffeth, Teresa Chamberlain, and Sue Weil. We were very busy in December selling calendar towels from which we got a very good start in our treasury. Our class was well represented at Homecoming with Becky Barton and Linda Payne as our attendants. Both Freshman football and basketball teams had tremendous seasons. The class of 73 voted Chester Griffeth and Becky Barton to receive the Freshman Citizenship awards. We wish to thank Mrs. Acuff for being a great sponsor. At a moment when Rufus much needs a father, Jay is killed in an automobile accident. There had always been gulfs in the relationship between Jay and Mary. The biggest gulf was that Mary wanted to keep from Rufus the fact that she was expecting a new baby, while Jay felt the boy should be told the truth. It is the adjustment of Mary to tragedy and loss which forms the focal point of this fine play. 86 Bonnie and Clyde of P. H. S. Let's be friends Feel good? Cast at work What if he was drunk? In merry olde England during the middle ages, knights roamed the countryside looking for conquests. Knights, dressed in armour, were nearly invincible against the common soldiers. In legendary Camelot the young King Arthur marries the beautiful Guenevere and decides to be the greatest and most noble ruler ever. He establishes the Round Table, where the greatest knights in the world would meet and decide how to use their might to right the wrongs of the world, Might and Right! Sir Lancelot kills a knight in a joust but works a miracle to bring him back to life, the court, and especially Guenevere, let this admiration for him go free. A nasty, illegitimate son of Arthur named Mordred realizes the weakness in the idealism of the Round Table. It is human nature. Man is not strong enough to find perfection. Mordred exposes Lancelot and Guenever's love for each other and Arthur reluctantly bows to tradition and goes to war for revenge. The Round Table is destroyed. But Arthur realizes that as long as man searches for goodness, there is hope. He knights a young boy on the battlefield and tells him to run behind the lines to live to tell the story of Camelot, that once there was a shining moment that was known as Camelot. The theme was carried out in shades of purple, pink, and white with a large man-made mountain which served as Queen Terry's throne. To the music of The Pleasure , crown-bearer, Marty Jones, and flower girl, Gina Bartlett, brought the crown to Kevin Lowe who then crowned Terry Jones 1969-1970 Prom Queen. After Kevin and Terry took their place on top of the mountain, Terry's attendants, Cindy Berry, escorted by Tom Bunting, Marcia Bergman, escorted by Terry Yelliot, Sandy Harshman, escorted by Kerry Groom, and Debbie Roodhouse escorted by Bruce Callender, took their places on the mountain. The formal dance was followed by the informal dance at 12:30 A.M. While the Seniors tore down the Purple Haze , the Juniors sadly watched. The Color of Time played until 2:00 A.M. After a Road Runner cartoon the movie The Oscar was shown. Around 4:30 A.M. breakfast was served. The '69-70' Prom was certainly a success. 95 Senior trip? That Ultra-brlte smile Wanted for? From the start to the finish the Saukees proved to be an outstanding ball club. Pittsfield opened the season with the Hannibal Tournament. The boys looked great defeating Mexico and Moberly, but lost a heartbreaker to Christian Brothers by one point in the championship game. The Saukees also made a fine showing in the Centralia Tournament, bringing home the 4th place trophy. Our boys beat Centralia and Freeport while losing to highly ranked Thornton of Harvey and powerful Belleville West. In Regional play the mighty Sauks downed Jacksonville Routt and then Triopia for the title game. Our Indians soundly defeated Warsaw in the first round of the Sectional. In the Sectional finals came the crucial clash between the Saukees and our traditional rivals, the Quincy Raiders. The mighty Saukees pulled through gaining a membership in that elite SWEET 16 . The Saukees continued on in the Super Sectional chase at Western Hall facing the East Moline Panthers. Our boys were defeated, but East Moline went on to capture 2nd in the State finals. We are extremely proud of our Saukees as they are only the 4th team in the history of Pittsfield High to achieve the honor of placing in the SWEET 16 .
