1967 SA UKEE Volume 29 Pittsfield High School Pittsfield, Illinois i Organizations. 57 Activities Ads 109 The staff of the 1967 Saukee yearbook has worked many long hours to produce a book that will record and reflect the memorable events of the year. The memories of this school year were many. Our goal was to capture these memories and make it possible to relive them again. We sincerely hope that we achieved our goal. As this year’s school days come to an end, may we present to you the challenge to accept the responsibilities which life will present to you in the near future. 4 Editor 1966-67 Saukee FACULTY JON ROBB - B.A., M.A. College English, English IV, Speech National Thespian Sponsor CHARMIAN POE - B.Ed. The following evening the traditional bonfire had been lit and talks made about our future victory. After the pep meeting, the students were all ready to yell at the game. That night, cheers were led by the return of Chief Blackhawk and the cheerleaders. And a victory it proved to be with the Saukees beating Rushville 34-0. The climactic moment of homecoming came Saturday night as Steve Shaw, co-captain of the football team, crowned Chris Webel Queen of the 1966 Homecoming. Karen Callender was Maid of Honor and Sandrs Stilwell, 1966 Prom Queen, was Honorary Attendant. The football players served as escorts for the representatives of the other classes. The 1966 Homecoming theme was “Our Town”. The gym was decorated with signs and streets making the theme fit its name. Debbie Alspaugh Chris Collver 82 On Friday, May 12, the Juniors magically transformed the PHS gymnasium into an island paradise. The theme “Ocean of Love” was carried out in alternating shades of blues and greens, with an enormous but beautiful white shell as the background for the Queen and her court. In one corner a waterfall and stream created a mystical, secluded cove, and as a finishing touch, an island of palm trees was placed in the center of the dance floor. The juniors chose live flower arrangements for centerpieces and a miniature orchid for each girl. Don Smith’s Band provided light and lively music for the evening. Miss Vicki Lowry was crowned Queen of the Jr.-Sr. Prom by her escort Don Jenkins, who may have started a new tradition! The Queen’s court included Debbie Alspaugh, escorted by Marty Booth; Donna Thornton, escorted by Stephen Grote; Chris Collver, escorted by David Shaw; and Debbie Smithcrs, escorted by Tom Henderson. At 11:30 couples went home to change for the after-prom dance. After returning most juniors sat and watched and others turned a beautiful prom into an “Eve of Destruction”. The casual dance was then followed by the movie, “Pillow Talk”. At 4:00 a.m. after a light breakfast, everyone, exhausted but happy, headed for home, never to forget the 1967 Jr.-Sr. Prom.
