She made her home with the Glen Wombles family. The school year for Bahsen was a very busy one. During her senior year Bahsen was an active member of F. T.A. and Student Council. She also helped on various committees for the senior play. Outside of school she enjoys swimming, bi- cycling, and snow skiing. In Bursa, Bahsen lives with her parents and her fourteen year old brother, Ilhan. When Bahsen returns to Turkey she plans to enter the University in the fall to prepare for the teaching profession. The P.H.S. students have thoroughly enjoyed having Bahsen in school and will long remember her outgoing personality. Mult J. ?. The servants feel sorry for Poor Professor Higgins in his attempt to teach Eliza to talk properly. 82 Eliza's devoted father comes to protect his daughter from the hands of the professor. Overjoyed at Eliza's correct pronunciation of The Rain in Spain , Higgins and Pickering enact a bull fight. At Eliza's first appearance in public as a lady , Mrs. Higgins introduces her to Mrs. Eynsford-Hifl and her son Freddie. Freddie later appears at 27-A and sings about the street where Eliza lives. Finally a lady in every way, Eliza is escorted by Professor Higgins to the Embassy Ball. As a first project of the year, the National Thespian Society, with the help of the Pittsfield High School Stage Band, produced and presented the Broadway hit My Fair Lady . The play was presented five times and each time was enjoyed enthusiastically by all. The costumes and scenery added immensely to the effectiveness of the play. The chairmen and their committees worked especially hard to have costumes, props, scenery, make-up, and lighting flawless. Finally after nine weeks of long hard work, My Fair Lady , con sidered by many to be our best production, was put before the audience. Much credit is given to Mr. Robb, Mr. Rosene, Mrs. Rosene, Mrs. Miles, and Mrs. Marcia Hillebrenner. 83 As Franklin and Jimmy playfully arm wrestle, the others cheer them on. This past year tradition was broken by doing away with Junior and Senior plays. In place of the Junior play was the first all school play . Sunrise at Campobello. The play centered around the comeback of Franklin Roosevelt from polio. Eleanor Roosevelt, played by Kathy McGann, and Franklin's mother, played by Miki Irving, had conflicting ideas on caring for their loved one. These conflicting ideas gave the story much suspense. This play was especially difficult because of the impersonations of well-known political figures. Robert Hoover portrayed Franklin Roosevelt to the hilt. All of the cast did a superb job in acting. Franklin's determination and stubbornness compel him to attempt walking even after many falls. “Sunrise at Campobello” On the verge of tears, Eleanor struggles to retain her poise as she reads a story to her youngest sons. The rehearsals were long and tiring, but the end product was worth every minute of rehearsal. Indeed, the play could be considered a miracle in its triumph over technical difficulties, problems with make-up, portraying blind people, costumes, ana lack o! space. Congratulations go to Mr. Robb in achieving outstanding success in producing one of the most difficult plays ever presented by Pittsfield High School. What you want, Honey? Homecoming 1965 The 1965 homecoming got off to a rousing start with the traditional bonfire and burning of class dummies on Thursday night. The following day the student body appeared in casual clothes and high spirits. Invigorated by the cheerleaders and inspired by the band the Saukees yelled loud and long at the pep rally on the court house lawn. Big Chief Blackhawk himself, was there to lead us in the war dance. Later that night, our spirits soared as we watched the Saukees roll over the Beardstown Tigers with a score of 33 to 6. The climatic moment of homecoming came Saturday night as Steve Bergman, co-captain of the football team, crowned Vickie Graham Queen of the 1965 Homecoming. Bette Ed-mondston was Maid of Honor and Sandy Lowry, 1965 Prom Queen, was Honorary Attendant. The football players served as escorts. The theme for the 1965 Homecoming was entitled Saukees A-go-Go. This theme was very appropriate because the Sauks went go-go in the game. The gym was decorated with flashing lights to make the theme fit its name. The gym was decorated in shades of green, which were appropriate for the occasion. It was a thrilling moment as Caroloeta McCulloch and Steve Lowe took their places on the throne to be crowned Queen and King of the 1966 Shamrock Dance. Their royal attendants were as follows: Seniors: Janet Dell and David Daniels. Juniors: Patricia Durall and Don McKee. Sophomores: Jeanette Payne and Kent Carnes. Freshmen: Marsha Cannon and Glen Cooley. Some Enchanted Evening May 13 truly turned out to be an enchanted evening and not just because it was on Friday the 13th. Various shades of blue and many spotlights gave the gym an air of mystic beauty. A special feature of the prom was the moonlit garden which helped to express the theme. At nine o'clock the spell seemed to reach its climax when the Mike Hurdle Quintet played Some Enchanted Evening and our lovely queen, Sandy Stilwell, was crowned by her escort, Charles Ingersoll. Queen Sandy's court included Kathy McGann escorted by Robert Hoover, Jill Dewolf escorted by John Lowry, Carolyn Barber escorted by Steve Shaw, and Chris Webel escorted by Jay Shaw. A local band group helped to make a lively after-the-prom dance. However as the enchanted evening wore into the early morning, the pace slowed down a bit when Gidget Goes Hawaiian was shown in the auditorium. Many yawns later, breakfast was served to a tired but happy group. 96 JILL DEWOLF CHRIS WEBEL Athletics “If we win men’s hearts throughout the world, it will not be because we are a big country but because we are a great country. The Saukee Indian's baseball team had a successful season this year with an 11-8 record. The Saukees won the District championship before losing to Quincy in the Regional Tournament. Rainy weather was the team's biggest foe as many games were postponed or cancelled. However, the Saukees played four double-headers to balance out a full schedule. A young squad, composed of one senior, five juniors, nine sophomores, and one freshman, maintained the standards of PHS sports with a desire to win and a display of sportsmanship. I 14 The Pittsfield golf team saw very little victory this year. The Saukees won two meets, both from Beardstown, and tied for fourth place in the Quincy Invitational. The golfers placed ninth in the District Golf Meet, then lost the remaining five meets. Although the Saukees won only two meets, some of the golfers played very good rounds. It is a young team with high hopes for the future. GOLF TEAM FRONT: David Hergit, David Dodd, Drew Irick, Jack DeWolf, Ray Attwood, David Shaw. SECOND: Coach Irick, Tom Casteel, Kevin Elledge, N. D.
