■SI Saukee — “65” Volume 27 I faculty...........5 Classes.........17 Organizations. 57 Activities.. . .73 109 Twenty-seven short years ago theSAUKEE came into being. Its purpose was, as it is now, to present a pictorial record of the events of the school year. These twenty-seven yearbooks have preserved for each class the memories of a school year. The memories of one school year are many, some are happy and some are not so happy. A yearbook is not to replace those memories, but to refresh them with pictures. The SAUKEE staff has worked many long hours to improve this book so that it will be more enjoyable to you in the future. We then respectfully submit this, the twenty-seventh edition of the SAUKEE, to the students and faculty of Pittsfield High School. Carolyn Roberts Editor 4 faculty CHARLES FISHER - M. Ed. The Music Man , was presented by the Thespians and the P. H. S. music department. This work of Meredith Wilson is commonly known as America's favorite musical . It is the story of an ambitious con-man who hoodwinks the town of River City, Iowa, into believing in him as a band leader, and in his preposterous method of teaching music, the think system. Many lively songs, bouncy dances, colorful scenes, and superb acting were enjoyed by the large audiences that viewed it on November 19, 20, and 21. The play was under the direction of Mr. Robb, with musical direction by Mr. Rosene, vocal direction by Mrs. Rosene, and choreography by Marcia Hillebrenner. juniors Present “ZheMousetrap CAST Giles Rolleston...............................Eric Peters Mollie Rolleston.................Vickie Wombles Christopher Wren - -- -- -- -- John Akin Mrs. Boyle - -- -- -- -- - Suzanne Otto Major Metcalf - -- -- -- -- - Stan Lowe Miss Casewell..........................Connie Hall Mr. Paravacini - -- -- -- -- Robert Clark Sgt. The relatively small cast, numbering eight, was directed by Mr. Robb. The play, an Agatha Christie thriller, concerned the mysterious murders of snowbound guests of a newly opened resort. All the characters were likely suspects of the killings, and the real murderer, when revealed, shocked everyone. The audiences were kept guessing throughout each performance. The play told the story of a bully and ne'er-do-well, Liliom, who works in a carousel. The play concerned the marriage, death, and return to earth of Liliom. The setting was Budapest. The cast, unusually large for a class play, was directed by Mr. Robb. Four performances, two adult, one high school, and one junior high, were given. HOMECOMING 1964 Homecoming, 1964, got off to a rousing start Thursday, October 22, as students assembled at the high school that night for the traditional bonfire. However, things almost seemed to fizzle out when a group of over-anxious students lit the fire too soon, but everyone brightened up as the cheerleaders led the crowd in the Saukee yells. Coaches Worley and Irick gave their predictions of the game and introduced the senior football players who gave their war talks. Friday, the 22nd, was casual day, the day when everyone, students and teachers alike, come to school dressed in blue jeans, cut-offs , slacks, sweatshirts, and shorts. Then that afternoon, the football players and coaches, riding a fire truck, led the Saukee band and the students to the square for a lively pep rally. The game Friday night started with the introduction of the Homecoming attendants, then moved on to the kick-off. The Sauks went wild as P. H. S. stomped the Rushville Rockets, 7 to 0. Saturday evening, the theme of the dance, Autumn Mist , seemed to come alive in the beautifully decorated gymnasium. The highlight of the Homecoming activities came when Nancy Watson was crowned the 1964 Homecoming Queen. Caren Collver was maid of honor and Jane Kraybill, the 1964 Prom queen, was honorary attendant. David Noriega, our foreign exchange student from Colombia, topped the festive occasion with an authentic Colombian dance. m Queen Carolyn and King Mob Plowboy Prom 85 The members of FHA and FFA worked diligently to make the Plowboy Prom” a success, and their efforts were worth all the bother. For this dance the gymnasium was transformed, by the use of crepe paper and numerous bales of straw, into a huge barn. This was the first Plowboy Prom to be held at P. H. S., and the novelty of square dancing quickly enthused the students. The king and queen of this barnyard romp were Bob Browning and Carolyn Foster. Their attendants consisted of a boy and girl from each class. Left to right: Martha Winans, Tom Henderson, Judy McGinley, Jim Griffeth, Kent Baker, Queen Carolyn Foster, King Bob Browning, Ina Horton, Ginger Royalty, John Patterson, Betty Browning, Wayne Johnson. 86 Queen Sandy Vr. -Sr. Prom On Friday, April 30, as if by the shake of a magic wand, the gymnasium had been transformed into a lovely countryside scene. But any Junior is sure to tell you that no magic did tne job; it took hours of hard work. The theme, April Love, was carried out in light, pastel colors; pink, yellow, blue, green, and white. The front of the gym had been turned into a huge white breakfront, complete with pink picket fence, by the use of chicken wire and about 100,000 napkins. A flower-decorated bridge made a lovely entrance-way through the breakfront and into the gym, and once inside, the sight of a huge, pastel wishing well, a gaily-decorated swinging seat, and hundreds of crepe paper roses greeted the viewer. The Junior class also went out of their way by furnishing live flower arrangements for each table and a beautiful rose for each girl. The Don Smith Band provided light and lively music for the occasion. Miss Sandra Lowry was crowned Queen of the 1965 Jr. -Sr. Prom by her escort John Engle. The court consisted of Bette Edmonston, escorted by Stan Lowe; Dinah Smith, escorted by Dick Peebles; Mary Richards, escorted by Rick Loyd; and Sharon Voelker, escorted by Bob Browning. At 11:30, the couples went home to change and returned to a casual after-prom dance; followed by the movie, Suddenly Last Summer. At 3:30 a. m., after a light breakfast which was served in the cafeteria, everyone, exhausted but happy, tripped home, never to forget the 1965 Prom.
