A„ it is easy to see why tney are one of the busiest organizations in Pittsfield High. During the past year the F. F. A. has participated in the land-judging contest on a sectional basis. In all contests the teams scored enough points to become Section 13 Judging Champions. Some of the officers attended the National F.F. A. Convention in Kansas City, and all attended the officer training school for section 13. Again one of the highlights of the year was our Parent-Son banquet at which we had 192 parents, sons, and guests. Awards were given to many boys at this banquet for their outstanding achievements in F. F. A. activities. Everett Dean won the sectional farm-mechanics award for the second straight year, Danny Hayden was the leader in the pest control contest, Everett Dean and Bill Hammitt sold the most Christmas cards, and Carl Blacketer was the leader in the garden seed selling campaign. The F. F. A. boys purchased a new movie projector during the year, donated $20 for the shade trees for the school, and planted the trees for the Student Council. The Sweetheart Ball was sponsored by the F. F. A. and F. H. A. Chapters. Following cur regular meetings the boys enjoyed a lively session of basketball, plus a follow up of Cokes and candy bars. The members are now at work completing their program-of-work for entry into sectional and state competition. Again we have one of our members trying for the State-Farmer Degree, and we hope Everett Dean is fortunate enough to win this outstanding honor. F.F.A. Tree Planting at P.H.S. A. got off to a good start in August as F. H. A. advisor and officers met to plan the program for the coming year. The first scheduled event of the year was the F.H. A. rally. In October, a large number from the F. F. A. and F. H. A. enjoyed a sports party in the gymnasium. Rev. Vernon Stout, guest speaker at the November meeting, talked to the F. H. A. girls on Religion in the Home. January brought the initiation of twelve Freshmen and eight upperclassmen into the chapter. Also, at the Freshman initiation meeting, Saud Alu Kish, Arabian student at Hannibal-LaGrange College, talked to the group on the customs of the people in his country. The annual Sweetheart Ball, co-sponsored by the F. H. A. and the F. F. A., was one of the major activities for the F. H. A. during February. Despite conflicting factors, the F.H.A.and the F. F. A. worked diligently together to have a very attractive and successful Sweetheart Ball. Also, in February the club served the F. F. A. Parent-Son Banquet. In March, the F. H. A.presented a Style Show for the P. T. A. One of the main activities, the observance of National F. H. A. week, was carried out in April with an activity for each day of the week. An educational and sightseeing tour, probably one of the most looked-forward-to of the scheduled events, was taken in May. The highlight and final event of the 1960-'61 year was sending a delegate to the Illinois State F. H. A. Camp. F. H. A. girls plant roses 51 F.T.A. Convention was held at Pittsfield this fall with Barry F. T. A. as co-host. Mrs. Mink’s class at the South Grade School was adopted this year. Gifts made by the members were given to each child. Money was raised by selling coffee at football games, a bake sale, and selling Saukee emblems for cars. This spring Mary Evans and Kathy Orrill were elected as delegates to the State F. T. A. Convention at Normal, Illinois. Early this spring the sophomores, juniors, and senior members visited the grade school, each visiting the grade in which he or she hoped to teach. A foreign student spoke at a potluck supper during a night meeting. Badges were earned on the basis of points. These points could be earned by reading N. E. A. and I. E. A. magazines, working on committees, being an officer, having a high scholastic record, winning honors, and teaching a class. 32 G. A. A. Our Editor in Action! 99 Last Words of the Annual Staff — Now that the last of the pictures are pasted And the last of the copy is sent, Now that the last page of proof is corrected. And our last red penny is spent. We shall rest and faith, we shall need it. We shall sleep for a week or two, We shall star once more in our classes And study the whole week through. Then no one shall shrink at our coming For pictures that haven't been made. And the couples we asked for snapshots Shall spoon once more unafraid! Our brows no more shall be furrowed With lines of worry and care And we'll rest from our weary labors With time enough and to spare; We'll swear by all that is holy That we'll never again be caught Trying to publish a blamed old book That doesn't pan out as it ought. We'll seek no more for the glory That goes with an editor's name; But we'll be content if our days are spent In other paths of fame.
