She is a popular and well-liked girl and is very deserving of this award. She has very willingly worked on many committees all through high school and can be depended upon. Ann will be missed by everyone next year. D. A. R. Ann Stroheker DAN FORTH FOUNDATION Gordon Lyman Gordon Lyman, better known as Butch, is the nephew of Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Brokaw of Summer Hill. DANFORTH FOUNDATION Kay Hammitt Best Wishes from FARMERS STATE BANK 31 Senior Class History Freshman Year We entered good old P. H. S. in the September of 1954. After several days of getting lost and finding ourselves in the wrong classes, we finally got into the routine of our new high school. We, 133 green freshmen, elected our class officers and Student Council members at our first class meeting. Our class officers were: President, Roy Nicholson; Vice President, Kent Sanderson; Secretary, John Bauer; and Treasurer, Mary Frances Ducey. Our Student Council members were Connie McGinnis, Joe Thrasher, and David Baughman. Our attendants to the Homecoming Coronation were Sue Frazier and Judy Orrill. Our able sponsor, Mr. Glen Smith, helped us around that year. Sophomore Year Our sophomore year began with the usual elections. Our class officers were: President, Joe Thrasher; Vice President, David Baughman; Secretary, Judy Orrill; Treasurer, Joe Fletcher. Connie McGinnis was again a Student Council member along with the newly elected Pat Jeffries and Steve Gay. Our Homecoming attendants that year were Linda Strother and Kay Goodin. Miss Harpole was our very good sponsor. We took pride in our new building. Junior Year Our reign as juniors brought many happy events. With the help of Miss McGuire and our class officers who were: President, Ellis Sanderson; Vice President, Linda Bradburn; Secretary, Jean Gleckler; and Treasurer, Gordon Butch Lyman, we had a successful year. Our class was represented by Connie McGinnis, Mary Frances Ducey, and Pat Jeffries in the Student Council. Our Homecoming attendants were Kathy Windmiller and Rose Ann Collins. Miss Bueker directed our successful Junior Play, It's Great to be Crazy. The proceeds from this production were used to finance our beautiful Junior-Senior Prom, Isle of Golden Dreams. Senior Year At last we are seniors. Our class officers are: President, Sam Boyd; Vice President, Ann Stroheker; Secretary, Kay Williams; Treasurer, Kay Hammitt. Senior Student Council members are Mary Frances Ducey, who is President of the Council, Connie McGinnis, Pat Jeffries, Gordon Lyman, and Kathy Windmiller and Ron Speckhart are honorary members. Now that our high school days are over, we are sad at leaving, but we are looking forward to many happy days in the future. We very sincerely thank our sponsor, Mr. Fesler, for his help and encouragement and also thank all the other faculty members. 32 Best Wishes from ZIMMERMAN BROS. Winston The John Philip Sousa Band Award-1958 Warren D. Winston, cornetist, was awarded the John Philip Sousa Band Award for 1958. Warren was selected to receive this outstanding award by his fellow band members. President of the Band, and Head Drum Major this past school year, Warren has been very active in instrumental music for all four years of his high school career. The John Philip Sousa Band Award was presented to a Pittsfield High School student for the first time this year. Instituted by Director Paul E. Rosene, the award is sponsored by the Pittsfield Band Boosters. The recipient of the award is the outstanding Senior Bandsman, one who has clearly shown to be a leader in the instrumental music organizations and who exemplifies those qualities desired in a school musician. Named in honor of the greatest of all the Band musicians. The John Philip Sousa Band Award is presented by high schools to outstanding Seniors throughout the United States. In addition to receiving the plaudits of the entire community, Warren was presented a trophy, a certificate, and an award pin. To further commemorate the presentation, Warren's name is engraved on a beautiful plaque displayed in the high school, as the John Philip Sousa Band Award recipient of 1958. 63 Junior Play Phantom Of The High School CAST OF CHARACTERS Vera Dean, Gary Faris, Jill Heavener, James McKinney, John Bradburn, Martha Ducey, Janice Butterfield, Becky Watson, Jim Harter, Joyce Christian, Mary Sue Jones, Don Fidler, Mary McHose, Carolyn Robinson, Jerry Brown, Mike Perrine, Sherry Biddle, Tom Burbridge, Jiggs Chaisson. THE STORY OF THE PLAY When the dramatics coach is injured in a fall on the stairs, only Mindy believes that it was not an accident. She tries to tell the principal her suspicions, but tries to steal the $300 the school has raised for the hospital. The principal blames Rick, for it's known the thief wore the Black Phantom costume which Rick wears in the school play they're rehearsing. Still, nobody believes Mindy's warnings, and she grows almost frantic as people tousle her hair and say: Run along. Miss Imagination! To make matters worse, Rick is beginning to be annoyed with Mindy and her alarms and warnings. Julie is doing everything she can to snare Rick and so much that is the last thing Mindy wants to happen. It is only when she has discovered so much that the phantom sees her as a danger and ties her up in the closet, that it begins to percolate that the girl who cried wolf may actually have seen real danger this time. By now, the threat is active and deadly. It's a near thing that the phantom doesn't murder Mindy and Rick, too. 54 Best Wishes from HUFFMAN BROS. SINCLAIR STATION Senior Play A Midsummer Night's Scream Barbara Dawson is the director and prime motivator of a group of young people trying to raise money for a Youth Center to combat juvenile deficiency as Myrtle, one of the group, calls it. When a sudden rain storm breaks up the first rehearsal of A Midsummer Night's Dream, their choice of a play, the young people take refuge in a long-deserted theater on the estate of Norman Courtenay, the town's eccentric millionaire o Long-deserted? By humans, yes! But not by a ghost which plagues rehearsals, and nearly keeps the show from going on. How Barbara unmasks the villian, who turns out to be not such a villain after all, and the hilarious presentation of the Pyramus and Thisby portion of Shakespeare's beloved comedy, form the climax of this play. CAST OF CHARACTERS Janet Johnson, Mary Frances Ducey, Kent Sanderson, Jim Harry, Ann Stroheker, Jay Venable, Peggy Aldrich, Butch Lyman, Steve Gay, Barbee Biggs, Ellis Sanderson, Kent Kerr, Kathy Windmiller. Tom Brant Best Wishes from DUSTIN FEED MILL 91 1958 Prophecy As we stroll down Main Street toward Macy's, while on our senior trip, we stop to gaze in a department store window. Soon we are shuffled along by two weird-looking characters. They force us into an alley, take what little money we have, and knock us out. Our dreams wander into the future, and we see our classmates in their future lives. As always, there are those people who visit the lower points of interest in New York. While there, we recognize Peggy Aldrich as head barmaid over Rosavone Ator and Doris Baughman. A riot, started by John and Phil Bauer is immediately stopped by Ronald Duke, the proprietor. John and Phil evacuate the place, with the help of the hired bouncers, Ed Eng el man and Glenn Grimes. We decide the atmosphere is getting rather thick, so our New York City guide. Miss Barbara Biggs, escorts us to Yankee Stadium where we buy reserved seat tickets from Linda Brad burn. There we are disappointed to see the New York Yankees beat the Pittsfield Sockers. With our field glasses, we bring Tim Harry, catcher; Sam Boyd, pitcher; David Baughman, first baseman; and Joe Thrasher, in left field, into focus. All of a sudden we feel a dash of cold water. We look up only to see Ron Trimmer, a soda pop salesman. Ronnie tells us that Ronald Borrowman is now the employment manager at the employment agency. We decide we are thirsty, but by this time he has gone. We rush down the aisle searching for him. Our eyes are entranced by a ravishing blonde in a mink coat, (in the summertime?) and discover it is none other than Jay Venable, now happily married to the multi-millionaire farmer, Gordan Lyman. Jay's private handmaid, Rosie Collins, is seated beside her. Kirk Franklin, Rosie's husband, is employed as Butch's chauffeur. As we leave Yankee Stadium, we hail a taxi. We step in and the driver turns around. We are surprised to see Jim Brown, a professional cabbie. He takes us to the biggest self-service super market in the world. We see a lot of old acquaintances there. The big-shot co-owners, Frank Durr and Allen Ellis, ride by in a Continental Mark II, chauffeured by Janet Johnson. The boys do not see us, so we go on into the store. The main shelf stackers are David Stone and Roger Smith. We peer over the meat counter and see Bill Cawthon, head meat cutter. Our grocery cart goes wild and hits a small lady whom we do not recognize at first. We begin to state our apologies and realize that it is Linda Strother accompanied by her friend, Kay Goodin, now housewives. As we move through the check-out counter, Patsy Holt, Beverly Davis, and Delpha Ford are checking goods. When we get outside, we decide a swim v ould refresh us, so we hop a subway to Coney Island. While on the subway, we notice that the driver is George Cooper. Sitting next to us are Larry Dale and Linda Hittner who are now happily married and own a bean factory. They are on their way to Coney Island, too. 92 Compliments of COCA-COLA As we leave the subway, we notice Richard Crossman standing on the corner selling newspapers. We don't have time to talk to him because our guide hurries us on to the amusement park. We stop to play bingo and recognize the voice of the caller as that of Don Peebles. Don tells us that he is married to Connie McGinnis who works in the stand also, but she couldn't get their baby sitter, Janet Franklin, to take care of their ten kids today, so she has to stay home. We say good-bye to him and go to ride on the tilt-a-whirl which is operated by none other than Steve Gay. He is busy and can't talk to us, so we visit a side show, named The Razzle Dazzles of '58 owned and operated by Mike Johnson and Kent Kerr. We venture inside where Sue Frazier, Linda Reed, Suzanne Giger, Tean Gleckler, Nancy Grime s, and Kay Hammitt exhibit some of their newly learned dance steps. After the dance is finished, we exchange a few words with the girls and then head for the beach. While we are putting on our bathing suits, we talk to the proprietor, Suzanne Hunter. We just arrive on the beach when we see Mary Phillips being saved from drowning by the muscular lifeguard, Ellis Sanderson. After our quick dip, we find that we are very hungry. We see a sign advertising a rent-a-car agency on the beach, so we get dressed and rent a car. When leaving the car lot, we recognize Larry Gooud, owner of the agency. We drive to a near-by Hubbard-Jeffries Restaurant. This restaurant is one of a long chain of restaurants owned by Janet Hubbard and Pat Jeffries. Our very efficient waitress. Sue Smith, serves us our ten course meal. Our delicious food is credited to the wonderful chef, Billie Myers. With our relaxation over, we take a tour of the more serious aspects of New York. First on our tour is the United Nations' Building. Just inside the door on the first floor is a room full of secretaries. The two head secretaries, Marilyn and Carolyn Lehenbauer, are madly trying to complete last minute details for the Geneva Conference. Two important-looking gentlemen, who we later find out, are a minister and an ambassador to Antarctica, march in. They are Ron Speckhart, the ambassador, and Warren Winston, the minister. Our interpreter, Bob Halsey, who is assigned to us, shows us around. As we leave the building, we notice the daily ritual of the lowering of the flags. This is done by Pat Callihan and Ralph Williams . The next point of interest is the Bell Telephone Building. Karen Smith and Barbara Pennock, who are still just operators, but who are always trying for an information please position, introduce us to their manager, Keith Halsey. Keith tells us that he will permit us to call anyone, anywhere, free of charge. We pick up the telephone and call Time, Illinois, where Jack Brennecke and Linda Lewis are forming a revival meeting. They tell us their progress is tremendous. From there we go to the Empire State Building. Since we are ambitious, (of course, coming from Pittsfield) we begin walking up the long flight of stairs. Upon reaching the top, we collapse with fatigue. A rescue squad Best Wishes from GERARD BROTHERS TRUCKING 93 of doctors and nurses, who are on hand to help the ambitious tourists, rush over. Doctors Kyron Garrett. Earl Hull, and Larry Rose help us to a seat while Martha McClimen and Kathy Morrow furnish us with smelling salts. After recovering, we take in the marvelous view and happen to spy Darrell Dunham washing windows on the next building. Being sensible, we take an elevator to the main floor. We find that Nancy Lang is our elevator girl. On our way to Chinatown, we pass a drag strip for teen-agers and see Jim Payne, who is still a teen-ager at heart, lining up for the feature event. We stop for a moment to see the exciting race. Jim wins and is awarded a beautiful trophy and a kiss from the New York debutante, Donna Ruble. As we are very anxious to see Chinatown, the miles seem to speed by. Our first introduction to Chinatown is an enormous sign with a small group of Chinese dramatic actresses portraying a scene in a near-by laundry. We recognize the voice of Kathy Windmiller. singing Ching, Ching, Chinaman— washee, washee,—all day long. In the background are Betty Norris. Florence Newman. Mardell Pearson, and Tudy Reinhardt Baughman, who are chanting washee, washee. It is quite an impressive scene, but as we are in a hurry, we cannot stop. Inside Chinatown, each of us hires a coolie, who, behind their slanted eyes disguise, we discover, are Kent Sanderson. Terry Sloan. and Clarence Pruett. They say that their high school track experience has come in quite handy. They inform us of a famous chop suey restaurant which is owned by Melvin Knipmeyer. They take us to this restaurant where we are welcomed by Linda Sidwell, better known as Miss Chang Lu La, who is the hostess there. She introduces us to our chop sticks instructors, Nancy Sidwell and Kay Plummer. While we are eating, Madame Butterfly, Florence Winans. comes to tell our fortunes. She predicts a sudden awakening. We pay her and leave. Just outside we see our coolies watching a small street parade. The parade is led by three men disguised as dragons. Our coolies tell us they are Gerald Hall, Tom Kattclman. and Bob Parrack. Behind them are the tambourine players whom we recognize as Betty Staggs, Freda Stauffeur. Peggy Turnbaugh, and Kay Williams. The parade has gone, so we get into our buggies and peel out. Our coolies collide with a late dragon, who after his dragon head has fallen off in the turmoil, we find is Darrell Mink. The sudden jolt awakens us—only to find that we are still in the alley. We find our way to Macy's and to the 1958 Senior Class of Pittsfield. I say to Mary Frances, Do you remember something about a sudden awakening? She says, Yes, Ann, Ido! 94 Compliments of BENSON'S DODGE A PLYMOUTH Best Wishes from HARRISON IMPLEMENT 95 Last Will and Testament We, the Seniors, being of sound mind, feel our days at this school are nearing the end.
