It is the hope of the 1956 Saukee Annual Staff that, as you glance through this book in the years to come, you will recapture those moments--and the echoes will begin again, u i i 'IN l DEDICATION XX We dedicate this annual to you, Mrs. Meyer, to express our appreciation of your assist- ance to us in our four years ofa high school. Your happy disposition and cheerful smile will be remem- bered by us all through the years. IQQ 111 MR, VOSHALL You are a fortunate and privileged group of students in having the opportunity to attend school in one of the best and most up to date school plants to be found in any community comparable in size to the Pittsfield area which the school serves. The Pittsfield Community High School is a splendid example of how four or five communi- ties can pool their resources and build a moderr school plant adequate to meet the needs of all the boys and girls living in the area, Parents and students of Baylis, Detroit, Pittsfield, Rockport, Nebo, New Salem, Summer Hill and Time are all extremely proud of the 1 educational facilities now afforded all these com- munities, It is indeed a significant day for education because for the first time in the history of pub- lic education in the area now represented by the Pittsfield Community Unit District No, 10 each and every boy and girl has the opportunity to attend school in a good modern, and up to date plant with an exceptionally good and well- qualified faculty, each a specialist in his field. We now have a High School with a curriculum broad enough to meet the needs of all the boys and girls who attend and an extra curricular program which gives every student an opportunity to develop his talents to the fullest extent, I SALUTE THE CLASS OF 1956 UPON THE HONOR ACCORDED IT IN BEING THE FIRST CLASS TO GRADUATE FROM THIS NEW SCHOOL PLANT OF WHICH WE ARE ALL SO PROUD. TO YOU WE WISH ALL THE SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS POSSIBLE! J.H. Voshall, Superintendent LEFT TO RIGHT: Wade Grimes, Ed- gar Richards, Mr. Voshall, Ronald Sidwell, Dean Sneeden, Virgil Parks, Arthur Browning, Clyde Hollaway. I Mr. Metternich, for your won derful assistance in our time of need, your friendly ways to the students, and for the untiring pat- ience and efforts you have shown to help make us better students, We wish to salute you, Mr, Metternich, for your willingness to help all of us, of our school, as the principal 77Zez'z'em6c6 776544 Wick Miss Irick, we wish to thank you for your never-ending patience and guidance you have shown us during our four years with you. You have won many friends and will be rem- embered for your cheerfulness, dependability, and co-operation, 5 'Q' -'i I 1 DEDICATION OF PITTSFIELD SCHOOL Governor William G. THE UNANIMOUS DECLARATION Of The Senior Class of 1956, P,l-I. S. When in course of school events, it becomes necessary for the Senior Class to dissolve the education bonds which have connected it to the other classes, and to assume the duties of citizenship for which their school life has prepared them, a decent respect to the opinion of the other classes requires that they should transcribe this history leading up to their graduation. We, the Senior Class of 1956, entered the halls of P. H. S. in the fall of 1952, feeling a bit apprehensive but eager to begin our higher education. Our class congress elected Paul Smith, President: Don Harter, Vice Presidentg Norma Jones, Secretaryg and Khoy Sanderson, Treasurer. Joyce Gard, Anne Aldrich, and Roger Frazier were to represent us on the Student Council. The class representatives to Homecoming were Helen Winston and Connie Shue. Mr. Kuethe was our very patient advisor. As our second session convened, we elected as class officers, Bill Ferguson, Presidentg Khoy Sanderson, Vice Presidentg Tom Plattner, Secretary, and Carole Melton, Treasurer. Miss Bueker was a very helpful advisor during this year. Annie Dimmitt, Anne Aldrich, and Tom Petty were elected to the Student Council. Our class representatives to the Homecoming were Ina Strother and Carole Melton. As Junior Statesmen, we began our third session by electing class officers Tom Petty, President, Paul Smith, Vice Presidentg Connie Shue, Secretaryg Bill Goodin, Treasurer. Annie Dimmitt, Paul Payne, and Bill Ferguson represented our class on the Student Council. Class representatives at Homecoming were Annie Dimmitt and Anne Aldrich. Our play, Men Arc Like Streetcars, was under the leadership of Miss Harman. The proceeds were used to ,finance the Junior-Senior Prom, Garden In The Rain, of which Ina Strother was crowned Queen. Miss McGuire was our very considerate and helpful advisor this year. Taking our honored places as Senior statesmen, we chose as our govern- ing body Don Smith, President, Beverly Harris, Vice President, Mary Lee Benjamin, Secretaryg and Harley Whitlock, Treasurer. Jim Gay, Joyce Gard, and Reg Dunham represented us on the Student Council. Annie Dimmitt presided as President. Ten senior girls were attendants to our Homecoming Queen, Connie Shue. A special thanks goes to Mr. Fesler for his very excellent leadership during our senior year. And for the support of this Declaration and with a firm reliance on what the future holds for us, we mutually pledge our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor. i LAST Wlll AND TESTAMENT We, the Senior Class of 1956, being in our right mind, do bequeath and bequit, leave, give, and get rid of the following members of the Senior Class -------- to put in their high place these lowly creatures: ANNE ALDRICH leaves her grades to her sister, Sally, she needs them! Miss Bueker, Director. THE STORY OF THE PLAY Principal for a Day! . .An exciting dream. But, it actually comes true at Ames High School. It all begins because Principal Lundquist just has to be away to speak at th State Principal's Convention. Miss Dill, regular school secretary, has a terrible cold and insists on going home for the day. The vice-principal, Mr. Ober- mayer, is confined to his bed with a high fever. Then it is that Mr. Ames, school board president, decrees that the student council officers shall take over for the day. And that's how Pamela Jones becomes acting principal! She gets off to a bad start when, in trying to buzz for the janitor, she rings the fire alarm bell instead. Then she has to decide whether or not to stand behind an unpopular teacher and keep the school's star athlete out of the State Basket- ball Tournament. Not the least of Pam's worries is good-natured Buzz Baily, acting-vice-principal, who grandly advises a gossipy student that There will be no more homework! Then there's Faversham Lightly, Jr. , who would rather sleep than eat and to Pam's grief, the Home Ee teacher is late and Shalimar Ames, her hated rival, turns on her honeyed charm to lure the reluctant Buzz into taking over the class with some truly astonishing results!
