The two members of the 1945 graduating class to receive the Danforth award are David Kiser and Greta Niccum. Twenty CLASS HISTORY Now as graduation is drawing so near for us sixty-seven seniors cmd everyone is making plans for the great day and for the days after graduation, we are spending some time looking back over the last four years which have flown by so rapidly. All the high lights of those years come back to us as clearly as if they happened only yesterday. lt was September 1, 1941, when a large group of so-called green freshmen entered P. C. H. S. so eager and willing to find out what was in store for them. Remember, we elected David Kiser for our president, Mary Helen Conrad, vice president, Phil Casteel, secretary, and Bill Howell, treasurer. We found many of our classmen taking part in various school activities. On initiation day we discovered that some had even adopted names of movie stars. Our first class party was a whizz. Were we glad that no upper classmen were there as many of us were just learning to dance. We got into the swing that night so that we were able to enjoy the coming school parties. Things were going very well when war was declared, December 7, 1941. Time was set up one hour which required our getting to school an hour earlier than the old time. We soon forgot Central Standard Time. We went to school on Saturday so that we could get out earlier in the spring. Our first year of high school was very successfully completed for which we gave credit to Miss Blaeuer in helping us through our hardships. We were really getting into the middle of school when we stepped in as sunny sophomores. Miss Dell stood with us in everything we did. Our class officers were: President, Bill Howell: Vice-president, Phil Casteel: Secretary, Suzanne Hanscom: Treasurer, Lucille Barkley. We were somewhat disap- pointed when it rained on us as we were going out to Dale Iohnson's on a hayride: but as we never stop with disappointments, we came back to the school house and enjoyed dancing in the gym. As for parties none can com- pare with the Sadie Hawkins' school party we had that year. As we entered school our junior year, we missed several of the boys of our class. They had joined the Navy during the summer. We wish that they would have stayed with us, for it was our junior year when our fun really started. Miss McGuire was our sponsor, and she, together with jimmy Nichol- son, our president, did everything to make this a very outstanding year. Our other officers were: Hall Smith, vice-president: Deloris Horst, secretary: Mildred Yokem, treasurer, and David Kiser, vice-president of the Student Council. We had a very good time on our Iunior-Senior Hayride when we went out to Wayne Griffeth's and roasted wieners. Because one of the wagons broke down We were Very crowded coming back to town. Did we ever bring in the money on our play, Don't Take My Penny. Miss McWilliams and the play cast deserve a lot of credit for making the play a success. We Iuniors were so happy to know that we would be able to give the Seniors a good banquet. We used a ship as our theme, and we were proud of our art work. We tried hard to make it a memorable affair for the Seniors and from all reports, I believe, we didl We were proud of our class that year. Eleven of our members were chosen to be on the National Honor Society. Twenty-one CLASS HISTORY And then, suddenly, we were Seniorsl lust like that! Miss Blaeuer came back to our class to help us make our last year in P. C. H. S. one to be re- membered. David Kiser was our president: Iimmy Nicholson, vice-president: Katherine White, secretaryp Mary lean- Maynard, treasurer, and Bill Howell was president of the Student Council. We shall never forget our barn dance at Rosemary Goodin's. We really initiated her father's new barn. The ,Annual Staff, with Miss Dell and Miss Willey, worked hard to make our annual a book that will be cherished by everyone who obtains one. The G. A, A. formal dance was one of the outstanding affairs of the school this last year. Three new members of the National Honor Society were chosen from our class. Some of us Seniors actually got out of our final exams. Can you believe it? We worked very hard on our play so that we might have enough money to pay forqthe orchestra for the Iunior-Senior Banquet. And, luniors, that was a wonderful banquet you gave us. We shall never forget it. Class day, baccalaureate, graduation, and then we must leave you. Although we shall soon be gone, We hope that you will not forget us. A Many of the boys of this class of 1945 are now in the' service. While we are enjoying the final festivities of our graduation, at the same time we are remembering those boys who in serving us cannot be here. After a few short days this class will no longer be making history as a group, but as individuals. It is our wish for each senior that the future days be as happy and profitable as their high school days have been. The Takeoif Two colored gentlemen who had just reduced the population in a farmer's hen roost were making a get-away. Laws, Mose, gasped Sam, why do you s'pose those flies follow us so close? Keep gallopin, Nigger, said Mose, them ain't flies, them's buckshot. Not only does this organization promote good health in each and every girl, but it tends to stimulate interest in girl's athletics and cultivates such desirable characteristics as good sportsmanship, co-operation, and group scholastic athletics. Awards in the form oi letters were presented this year to each member having at least one thousand points oi activities These activities consisted ot various forms ot exercise which were chosen by the girls themselves. A school year's work in these activities constituted enough points for an award. One ot the outstanding events this year was the G. A. A. Valentine formal dance in the gym, sponsored by Miss Ducey and the members ot the association. It is indeed a worth while organization. Thirty-six JUNIOR RED CROSS 1 V N 1 1 M1 111 E 1 ss 111111 B. I arrived at my old home town this morning from Virginia. Things have certainly changed. I was met at the Municipal Airport by my old friend, lla -Chappell, who is now the State's Attorney. Her Secretary, Helen Roads, seems to help her a lot. I went to court with her and imagine my surprise when I saw that Charles Meyer was the Defending Attorney. I was very sorry because Iudge C. L. Harshman wasn't presiding today. lla told me that Mardell Reel is in Hollywood. She played a Southern belle in Back With the Rain , with Bill Hoover as Director. After we left the capitol building, we went to the offices of the Pittsfield State Iournal. Since Pittsfield has become the state capitol, Leta Maude Sand- erson is editor. -Addibelle Carrel, Carl Chappell, and Carolyn Roads are re- porters. Hall Smith writes Advice to the Lovelorn. Next door is the Willard Modeling Agency. I always knew Buck would go far. Suzanne Hanscom and Rosalie Predmore are two of his models. Leona Ruble and Dolores Woods are designers, and Enid Williams, Dorothy Rowley, and Katherine Roberts are make-up artists. Rosemary Trautwein, Dorothy Clift, and Rosemary Goodin work in the Advertising Department. Then it was time for lunch, so we went to the Brown Derby, which is op- erated by Rosa Mae Pennock and her husband, Bob. While there, I caught up on all the old gossip. They said that Wilma Atwood is now singing with the Metropolitan Opera Company of New York. Ethel Foreman and Greta Niccum have their own detective agency and I'll bet they're more of a hindrance to the Homicide Squad and Inspector Gene Cooper than a help. Katherine White is now Dr. White. She has discovered a way to prevent all aches and pains, so I'm sure she's happy. Phil Casteel is a football coach at the University of Michigan, and Dick Shive is coach of Basketball at the University of Iowa. And of course, we had to visit the school. Do you remember in speech class how Bill Bagby was always talking about what he'd do if he were principal? Well, I guess he decided to try out his theories. He is principal, Asahel Ieffers is Supt., Virginia Ruse, Home Ec. Teacher, Annetta Kerr is teaching History, and Dorothy Brosie, Senior English. The students tell me that they are more strict this year than they have beenxfor twenty years. March 2, 1960 Dear Diary, Today we got up very early and went riding. We got our horses from the Landess Riding Academy. We had quite a long talk with the ovmer, Stuart, Ir., Iunior Adrain, Mary lean Maynard, and Iunior Butler are instructors. I found out about some more of our 1945 graduating class. It seems that Lucille Barkley is a Physical Education teacher at MacMurray College, and David Kiser, teacher of Ag at Texas A. and M. Professor Dean Vander Stoep, whom We all thought would become a mad scientist, has really surprised everyone. He has built a rocket to go to the moon. I guess it was a success because Gene Pine was the pilot and he hasn't come back yet. On his way to the moon he planned to stop on Mars to visit Dr. lames R. Nicholson, who went for a day's visit and found the people so nice that he made Mars his home. Forty-nine CLASS PROPHECY Mary Helen Conrad is the Fashion Editor of Seventeen and Charles Ray Lyman is a State Game Warden. Bill Howell is now Rear Admiral Howell, famous for his ideas at the world wide peace conference at Chicago. Ellen Goodin, as head of the peacetime Waves, also attended. Colonel Lyndle Schafer was in conference with the president, Evelyn Fusselman, the first woman to hold this office, and so he wasn't in Chicago. Buddy Willsey owns the Willsey Trucking Service, which delivers goods from San Francisco to Chicago. Alfred Long and Wilfred Mitchell are drivers. Nina Wilson is married and living in Louisiana. They say her two children are very cute. lake Walston is running for governor, Alvin Saylor, for Lieutenant Gov- ernor, and Hayward Smith, for State's Representative. Betty Kingery, Marjorie Barker, and Mary Doil are all overseas with the Red Cross. They're trying to help the natives of India. Dale Iohnson is at the head of all Red Cross nurses in the United States. Tonight we went to the Pineapple Bowl owned by Wendall Hall. He has a very good orchestra, with lrl Robinson as leader. Wayne Piper, Charles Crosson, and Billie Knipmeyer are three whom I recognized. Vickie Ducey is the featured soloist. Well, I have had a nice visit, but tomorrow l'll have to climb back in my flying meat shop and start traveling again. I hate to leave my friends, but the people on the Aleutians have an order for 500 pounds of bologna, and all the rest of my helicopters are out. Lois Iohnson. GHOST WANTED On May 4, the Senior Class Play, Ghost Wanted, was presented. It is a mystery-comedy in three acts centering around an ad for a full time ghost to haunt a lovely island home. Ieff and Hugo apply for the job and become acquainted with Ginger and Gale, the attractive granddaughters of Granny Kate, owner of the strange old island home. The ad was to cure Granny Kate of voodooism and her companionship for the Professor and Madam Zolga. The plan is for Hugo to impersonate the drowned fisherman, Simon Gore and thus uncloak the Professor and the Madam as fakers. The mysterious disappearance of Bradshaw, the sheriff, complicates mat- ters and when Hatcher, the houseman, tries to leave the house, Troddy, the maid and cook, locks him up. ' When Ieff discovered a secret passage, and the Professor and Madam Zolga are revealed as government agents, the play, after building up to a stormy climax, ended with everyone happy.
