Although no other new buildings built across campus, other departments and schools received face-lifts in the form of mergers and name changes. The Vocational Technical Institute and the School of Technology were merged so the administration would be able to maximize the classroom space and the faculty. Homecoming came to Pitt State with Carol LOCAL PITTSBURG TALENT joined in the effort to feed the starving people of the world. The spirit and festivities of Homecoming contrasted with the despair elsewhere in the world, as millions starved to death in Africa, The public became more aware of the famine arid raised money to help feed the starving. 40 American recording stars sung their hearts out in We Are The World for USA for Africa, which became a number one hit as people across America sponsored In Retrospect money-raising events for the cause. Pittsburg Sloven Haus for WARM WEATHER BRINGS out the picnicing spirit in PSU students, Audrey Lane, Osage City freshman, enjoys eating outdoors at the Apefest picnic. Steven Hausfer FOOD ALWAYS SEEMS to taste better when eaten outside. Cretchen Hogue, Topeka freshman, tests this theory by digging in to her dinner in the great outdoors. Opening Kanza 85
