Accuracy and efficiency are cultivated skills of business majors. To meet the demands of business the Department of Business Administration offers programs in the following areas: accounting, finance, marketing, busi- ness administration-liberal arts, and office adminis- tration; all lead to a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree. A business education program is available for those desiring to go into business teach- ing. At the graduate level a masters degree program is provided for business teachers. Last year repre- sentatives from over lOO companies visited the cam- pus to interview KSC business students for various positions; a total of over 500 inquiries were received for possible business teachers. Modern equipment aids in developing skill. To encourage student leadership, chapters of vari- ous recognized national professional business organ- izations are available for majors and minors in KSC business department. They include: Alpha Kappa Psi, professional business administration fraternity for men; Pi Omega Pi, national honor society for business administration; Phi Beta Lambda, international future business leaders of America; and the Society for Ad- vancement of Management. 31

CHEMISTRY Since chemical knowledge is doubling every seven years, emphasis has shifted from rote memorizing of formulas, equations, and reactions to an understanding of the basic principles involved in these reactions. No longer is it possible to carry out meaningful and competitive research without the aid of sophisticated instrumentation. This year the Chemistry Department has added two major items of equipment at a total cost of $14,000. Dr. Sunderwirth is shown operating the new infrared spectrophotometer which is used in determining the structures of molecules. The money for the two instruments came from grants from the Office of Education and from the Gulf Oil Corporation. The department also has research grants and other financial assistance from the National Science Founda- tion, The National Institute of Health, Dickey Clay, and Bruest Corporation. Chemistry majors may join the Student Affiliate of the American Chemical Society which has an active chapter on campus. Instructor works out problem in chemistry seminar. Dr. Stanley G. Sunderwirth, Chairman, Department of Chemistry.
