H DME ECO OMIC 'ii The objective of the Home Economics depart- ment is to prepare women to enter careers devoted to improving the lives of families and individuals. A large majority of the students of this depart- ment prepare to teach home economics in second- ary school. Professional activities carried on by the students include: aiding with the recruitment of new students by talking with groups in home- town high schools during vacationg participa- tion in the activities of the State Home Economics Chapterg and by initiating freshmen into the department by means of a Big Sister plan which begins With letters of welcome Written to in- coming students during the summer previous to their enrollment.

Dr. Chittenden, head of the department, Works in her office on the files The Home Economics Department offers the degrees of Bachelor of Science in Education in Home Economics and Bachelor of Science in Home Economics. Under the education degree, students are enabled to meet the requirements for several vocations other than teaching, such as extension services, business, research, and homemaking. Scholarships are offered by Phi Upsilon Omi- cron, the professional honorary fraternity, and the Home Economics chapter, a branch of the American Home Economics Association. The Home Economics department controls the Home Management House, which provides unique opportunities in that it offers the students real life living conditions.

Drivers training has become completely automatic. With the new TV. controlled training cars, training is now much safer for the student and the instructor. The KSC printing department is one of the best-equipped in the United States. With the use of the new automatic bindery, printing is done much faster and easier. Most of the college pub- lications and printed materials, such as the Collegio and the Grill menus are printed by the college department. The department has both the hot type and the linotype printing machines. In the undergraduate division, the depart- ment offers the degrees of Bachelor of Science in Education, Bachelor of Science in Trade and Industrial Education, Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology, two-year Technical cur- riculum, Industrial Arts Education teaching minor, and Industrial Technology minor. For graduates, they offer degrees in Specialist in Education, Master of Science with a Major in Industrial Education, and Master of Science with a Major in Trade and Industrial Education.
