O ur college has been reborn again and again out of the labors of the past. Beginning with the birth of the original Auxiliary Manual Training Normal School in 1903, our pri- mary purpose was to train teachers in manual train- ing, domestic science and domestic arts. Rebirth was experienced when our college became a four- year institution in 1913 and was renamed Kansas State Teachers College of Pittsburg in 1923. It was authorized to offer the Master of Science degree in 1929 and the Specialist in Education degree in 1958 -again rebirth. In 1959, it became Kansas State College and was authorized to offer the Master of Arts degree in the fields of history, English and mathematics, yet another new life. Not only the struggles and constant devotion of great minds of the past, but also the dedicated peo- ple of the present have contributed to the rapid development of our college from a single-purpose in- stitution to the multi-purpose institution it is today. The primary objective of the college now is to offer appropriate educational programs to every individ- ual. In carrying out this objective, the college recog- nizes several main divisions of endeavor: general education, liberal arts and sciences, specialized oc- cupational education, teacher education, graduate education, continuing education, community services and research. Internally, there is an increased emphasis on in- tellectual growth and new resources, both in physi- cal plant and our competent faculty, to help students obtain the most from their education. Certainly, the college has been reborn again and we are experienc- ing a Renaissance of learning. RENAISSANCE. . . .a new em
