KANSAS STATE COLLEGE OF PITTSBURG PITTSBURG, KANSAS OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT Dear Students: Who in 1903, when the College was founded, would have been bold enough to predict the present growth and development of Kansas State College in 1964. The College had a modest start at Fifth and Walnut streets in a school building furnished by the City of Pittsburg and with a total budget of 51518, 000. From that modest beginning the College now has twenty-three buildings located on a campus of 100 acres and operates with an annual budget exceeding six million dollars. The years have brought many changes in the educational programs and services offered by the College but they have developed slowly. New teaching techniques and improved teaching methods, as well as significant changes in the curricula, are on their way. They will be much more significant than anything experienced in the past. I predict that with all its changes and developments the College will continue to maintain high standards and will graduate students with a high level of growth potential. There undoubtedly will be as much growth in the student body and faculty in the next decade as there has been in the last thirty years. There unquestionably will be an increased diversification and concentration in a particular area by members of the faculty. What of the building program in the years ahead? I predict there will be a field house and auditorium, a classroom building with areas suitable for conducting classes with enrollments from 200 to 300 and buildings to house other specializations. I am of the opinion there will be additions to Porter Library, Hughes Hall, McCray Hall, and the Student Center. I also predict there will be a Student Health Center and Hospital, additional dormitories, including food service facilities, and multi-level parking for faculty and students. I foresee an increased support from our alunini and former students. As President Brandenburg once said, The greatest asset in strength and future growth which any institution can possibly have is its loyal and efficient alumni. Cordially, Je-4 '-C'-'sea 4:6 0,4-.4.-K .- eonard H. Axe President 6
