They go to pep club faithfully and wear Marching Dragon tee shirts. It's got the scholars. The scholars carry their trig books, their slide rules, and their note pads in bundles at their sides. They live from test to test, from study hall to study hall, and from A to A. And, it's got the bored ones who think school is a dragg a place to catch up on the sleep they lost the night before. They are the ones that caused Y-teens, FCA, and other clubs to fade away. They are the carriers of that dreaded social disease: apathy. 26 2 f' -1 1. . 'N FN. Our officers, Jean Huff, Liz Chambers, Pam Benege, and Carolyn Berkey, along With Mrs. Short, our sponsor, put to- gether a busy schedule for us. At Christmas we had a French cooking contest. Busche de Noel, a traditional French dessert resem- bling a cake, was made by pairs of members. These were judged by Dr. Henri Freburger, who chose Bernie Hiner and Mona Genser as winners. The contest was followed by a lec- ture on French people and customs. The an- nual trip to Kansas City where we saw a French play and ate in a French restaurant was in March. It took lots of understanding and hours of practice, beginning this summer, for all 127 members to create their outstanding performances. One of the new fea- tures was the choppy run-on which caught the public's eye and their breath. Then there was the squads, those smiling girls who entertained us i.n front of the band. They were the Twirling, Flag, Pom-pon, and Sign Squads. These girls attended camps this summer improving their talents. All squads were at the band's perfor- mance in Denver, during the Bronco's football halftime on October 15. Memories are fond and funny from our one night stay at the Holiday Inn in Denver. The band trips were al- ways exciting, along with being crowded, rushed, and nightmares about leaving instruments and parts of uniforms behind. Those students were some of the best-natured, fun- loving, hard-working kids in this area. just ask one of the band sponsors! Once upon a time, we decided the one thing fonly one?J this school needed was a good yearbook. We got tired of looking at violet dragons that were far from heterosexual and realized that a flood of purple and white was no longer cool. ThGrG'S H101-'G to LIS than that. We were watching Peyton Place one afternoon while trying to pick a theme when a Seven-Up commercial bombarded the screen. ' Rhonda has a cheerleading meeting in fifteen minutes and I had to go to work. We were tired of racking our brains trying to discover some cute little theme that would win us the Pulitzer Prize so we settled on the 1950's as the theme for this year's 5. 50 bar- gain . We reasoned that if no one liked it, we could always blame it on the cafeteria food that has effected our minds or the water on the brain we had as infants. Finally, the year got going. Boy! Did we have some problems! Our staff had some pretty strange ideas about ending some of the age-old traditions around here, but it didn't turn out quite like we'd planned. Have you ever crossed National Lampoon ideas with Mother Goose nursery rhymes? That's the way we feel about this book. The book progressed. CTa-dah!D Good or bad, it couldn't have been made at all with- out a few hard workers fmaniacs'?J. Let me make this perfectly clear, Cdid that have a familiar ring to it?J that without a fan-tabulous staff, nothing could have been accom- plished. As a famous best seller says, Thy rod and Thy STAFF they comfort mc . Lct me tell ya, we had an A-1 staff. Thanks goes to Scott Howard who tried to put up with us, but couldn't hack it. Thanks also to Brian Francks, Kevin Pursley, jim Alfonso Martin, and Mr. Lee. Steve Dittmann is to be praised for his talents in the dark room, too. And of course, 1.1-I. deserves most of the credit. It's on his ulcers that this hook was built. One more note, sorry about the beans, Pug. Maybe next year. Well, we survived the year. We also survived this book. Hope you can too. If not, do not bill the yearbook staff for the expense of a stomach pump--our advertising fund couldn't tolerate it! Wifi A-la' M 1 IGI!
