EARL R. BEVAN Superintendent l am happy to have the opportunity to use the 1964 edition of the Purple and White to bring greetings to the staff and the students of Pittsburg Senior High School. First of all, my congratulations to the fine senior class of 1964, and my best wishes to each of you as you leave us for new work and new experiences. It is our hope that your experience with us has helped each of you to develop worthwhile attitudes, skills, understandings and values with which to make your contribution to society. The world into which your class is graduating has, as never before, a need for young people with positive attitudes, marketable skills, a comprehension of basic issues, and a commit- ment to those values which can be identified with the American Heritage. Few countries in the world provide for their young people the educational opportunities which are available to American Youth, and this is partly the secret of the greatness of this nation. Todayls youth do become tomorrowls America, and the future great- ness and strength of this nation will largely depend upon the manner in which todayls youth utilize to the maximum the opportunity to secure an education which is largely at public expense. Thus, as l bring greetings to you, may l also remind each- of you that you are today laying the basic foundation for your future success and happiness, and you are also preparing yourself to make a worthwhile contribution to society. My hope is that each of you will have a future full of happiness, of success, and of service to your fellow man. , .uf-and
