The school year of .1963-64 has faded into memories of joy and sorrow. This was the year of houffant hairdo's, bangs for hoys, a shortened lunch hour, strict automobile regulations, the all school musical, newly painted rooms, the death of a classmate, the assassination of our President. So let this yearbook he a doorway to the memories of a year gone hy, an aid to lietter appreciation of the past, and deeper understanding of the fu- ture. we This l964 Purple and White is dedi- cated to the memory of one whose infectious laughter brightened our daily lives, whose courage gave us in- spiration to meet each day squarely, whose acceptance of things that could not be changed made us thoughtful, and whose optimism gave us hope- that precious gift of Our Creator. To Randy Foxx, who was a member of the Class of l964- and who has entered the doorway of Eternal Life, this yearbook is dedicated. s Our door to a comp1'ehensive edu- cation is kept open by the admin- istration, teachers, and staff of our school system. Only through their efforts can we avail'ourselves of free public education. We owe these individuals a debt of gratitude for their hard Work, care, and concern. BEVAN Superintendent l am happy to have the opportunity to use the 1964 edition of the Purple and White to bring greetings to the staff and the students of Pittsburg Senior High School. First of all, my congratulations to the fine senior class of 1964, and my best wishes to each of you as you leave us for new work and new experiences. It is our hope that your experience with us has helped each of you to develop worthwhile attitudes, skills, understandings and values with which to make your contribution to society. The world into which your class is graduating has, as never before, a need for young people with positive attitudes, marketable skills, a comprehension of basic issues, and a commit- ment to those values which can be identified with the American Heritage. Few countries in the world provide for their young people the educational opportunities which are available to American Youth, and this is partly the secret of the greatness of this nation. Todayls youth do become tomorrowls America, and the future great- ness and strength of this nation will largely depend upon the manner in which todayls youth utilize to the maximum the opportunity to secure an education which is largely at public expense. Thus, as l bring greetings to you, may l also remind each- of you that you are today laying the basic foundation for your future success and happiness, and you are also preparing yourself to make a worthwhile contribution to society. My hope is that each of you will have a future full of happiness, of success, and of service to your fellow man. , .uf-and BOARD OF EDUCATIO Provides the best possible physical and educational conditions for students TOP ROW: T. The year of 1963-1961 is recorded history at P.H.S. Commencement is at hand for the seniors and summer vacation for the rest of us. I commend the fine work of our Purple and White Staff and their sponsor to you. They have pro- vided a history of our year in this book that will be of value to you for years to come. Our .great nation is depending on your best contribution of citizenship and personal achievement in the future. I hope that your experience at P.H.S. will be a stepping stone to greater things. Mffafa GUIDANCE COUNSELOR Help students solve vocational, personal, ancl educational problems. CHARLES W. YOOS Director of Secondary Education LAWRENCE ZILLNER Counselor Through services of counseling, interviewing and testing Mr. Charles W. Yoos and Mr. Lawrence Zillner help each individual do his best and assist him in his efforts to solve his problems whether they be emo- tional, social or educational.
