Miss Stephens and Mrs. Lewis Retire MISS SARA STEPHENS With plans only to enioy her leisure and freedom, Miss Sara Stephens who teaches sophomore English will retire after thirty-one years in PHS and eleven years elsewhere. After receiving her B.S. degree at KSC she taught school for ten'years. She then returned to KSC where she became a member of the first graduating Master's Degree class. Other schools this veteran teacher has at- tended include the University of Denver, the Colorado State Teachers College, and the University of Washing- ton in Seattle. All of her teaching experience has been in Kansas including two years in Moran, eight years in Frontenac, and one year in Girard before coming to PHS. In her first year here Miss Stephens was librarian in the third floor room which now is Mr. Morey's classroom. The second year she was assigned to an English program which she has had to the present time. Chief of her interests in the extracurricular program has been her work with the Y-Teens over a period of years. As sponsor of the finance committee she has spent many hours supervising moneymaking proiects for the group. I2 MRS. RUTH LEWIS Mrs. Ruth Lewis will complete thirty years of teaching when she retires this spring. Mrs. Lewis re- ceived her A.B. degree in Muskingum College, New Concord, Ohio, and following graduation she taught one year in northwestern Colorado. In I923 she came to PHS where for three years she taught speech and English and coached dramatics. In I926 she resigned to marry Rev. David James Lewis. After Mr. Lewis' death in I932, Mrs. Lewis returned to school and obtained her M.S. degree in English and returned to teaching in 1935. For two and a half years she taught in Joplin, Missouri, before returning to PHS in 1938. During the summer of I96O, she traveled in Europe and the Near East. Students and adults have enioyed the colored slides of her trip. Of her plans for retirement, Mrs. Lewis says, Be- sides traveling, l want to do at least fifty other things I've always wanted to do and never had the time for, but most of all I plan to spoil my four grandchildren.
