Last Spring, McKune participated in Central's Spelling Bee. After winning, he went to the County Spelling Bee where he was one of the winners who went to the State Spelling Bee in Modesto. Just sitting there next to all the other spellers made him nervous. Soon it was down to three spellers and McKune was one of them. He couldn't stop shaking.
