Netters work together by Colleen Parent Unlty was found among the tennls players, according to second year player, Rowena Hllado. Na matter how bad thlngs became, we all stlll stuck together supported each other, and cheered each other on. Coach Ken Stott also felt there was a unlty among the players. He strove to see that each player would improve and necessarily only by their record. The team lived up to his expectations, and he was happy with the results. Hllado felt that she benefitted from the season. l am hitting my serves In more often and taking advantage of my position during volIeys. As well as improvement, Hllado enjoyed playlng because of the physlcal benefits as well as the Involvement In sports. The hlghllghts of the season were two wlns over Antioch and com- pllments received by Stott from other coaches on the players' excellent attitudes. Hllado felt that the team's outlook agalnst top teams, such as Northgate, was good. When It comes to playlng Northgate, we only play for fun and to get as many polnts as posslble. 1. Suzanne Becker volleys a winner past her opponent. 2. Stephanie Plzzogonl watches Intently as the ball salls over the net. J. Klm Leuschner follows through on her forehand. 4. Evette Castillo stretches to make a shot. 5. Letlcla Hernandez serves an ace to wln the polnt. 6. Team: Front: Ellnara Castillo, Sally Hernandez, Rowena Hllado, Tracey Conlln, mascot, Becky Stott, Bhanuben Patel, and Colleen Parent: Back: Klm Leuschner, Marilyn Warfield Sylvla Bocanegra, Coach Ken Stott, Clndy Schaeffer, Suzanner Becken Letlcla Hernandez. 62 GIRLS' TENNIS

Cross country team has fun by John Brooks Although the cross country team dIdn't end the season with a winning record. 0-7, the team still had fun running. Coach Curtls Atklnson said, I had a lot of quallty runners missing this year as compared to last, as many of our important runners had taken jobs. There also was a low turnout of runners because of the reputation of not being wInners, Robert L. Williams added. Atklnson had the team run between 4 to 5 miles after school every day. Whlle in the summer the runners were on thelr own, Atkinson recommended they run between 400-500 miles to improve themselves for league. Brian Krause ran approxlmately 300 miles durlng the summer and he was prepared for the fall and was a much Improved runner. Accordlng to Atklnson, the team's strong polnts were that they worked hard In practice, performed well in meets, and most importantly, they dIdn't lose prlde In themselves. Plttsburg's cross country team had a lot of quallty runners such as Brian Krause. Lloyd Peterson and Robert Williams, who was most valuable to the men's team and also plans to run at Cal Berkely next year. Tresa Currie was the most valuable and consistent for the girls, while Janice Wllllams and Noaiah Eckman were most valuable for the JV ladles. 64 cnoss couwmv Qs. 6 C9
